Michela Barbot

I am an economic and legal historian, Research Director at CNRS and Professor of History and Social Sciences at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) Paris-Saclay, member of the CNRS Research Unit IDHE.S (Institutions et dynamiques historiques de l’économie et de la société).

I hold a MA Degree in Economics (DES), a PhD in Social and Economic History (both from Bocconi University, Milan), and a HDR in Law (from the Law School of Sciences Po Paris).

I am interested in the institutional regulation of the socio-economic systems, from the local to the supranational level, in a long-term and comparative perspective (16th-21st centuries).

Using an interdisciplinary approach, my investigations and research projects deal with the history of property rights, urban and local governance, real estate and land markets, construction history, sustainable cultural heritage and environmental risks, and the institutional and legal foundations of prices, contracts, and markets.
