Unibio is a leading biotechnology company specialising in advanced gas fermentation technology. Our proprietary U-Loop® vertical loop bioreactor enables highly efficient mass transfer and scalable microbial production, converting methane and other carbon-rich gases into valuable products. Our first commercial application is Uniprotein®, a high-quality, non-GMO single-cell protein for animal feed and future food applications. What sets our U-Loop® technology apart from conventional fermentation? How can we deliver consistent output year-round, with the reliable supply and predictable pricing the market is looking for?   • Uniprotein® can replace up to 50% of the fishmeal in gilthead seabream feed with no loss in growth or feed efficiency. A new 96-day feeding trial by IRTA confirms it. Researchers ran the trial on gilthead seabream (𝘚𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘢), the Mediterranean's most farmed fish. It's the first full evaluation of Uniprotein® in a warm-water species, and the first holistic evaluation of 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴, assessing growth, digestibility, gut health, immunity and antioxidant response together. Beyond matching fishmeal on growth and digestibility, Uniprotein® supported a healthier gut, shifting the microbiota toward beneficial bacteria and away from potential pathogens, with antioxidant defences holding at baseline. Inclusion of Uniprotein® in seabream feed is a real, proven route to cut reliance on marine raw materials without trading off performance, replacing half the fishmeal, including premium Super Prime grade, at just 8.5% inclusion in the feed.   • Another step in expanding the reach of our gas fermentation platform. We have entered a strategic collaboration with BioVerde Tech to develop scalable, methane-based biomanufacturing processes for sustainable chemicals. Together, we are combining our patented U-Loop® vertical loop gas fermentation technology with BioVerde's microbial engineering and downstream chemical conversion platforms. The goal is ambitious. To turn methane into a low-cost, low-carbon feedstock for industrial chemicals, starting with bio-based butadiene, a key building block for synthetic rubber and engineering plastics like ABS. "By partnering with BioVerde and leveraging their expertise in developing high-performance microbial strains, we can expand the application of our technology beyond protein production into a broader portfolio of sustainable chemicals," says David Henstrom, CEO at Unibio. The work will begin across laboratory, demonstration, and pilot scale to systematically de-risk scale-up and support future commercial manufacturing.   • Our technology goes beyond protein production! With DKK 24.6 million (EUR 3.3 million) in funding from Innovation Fund Denmark, we are joining forces with our partner in the new Gas2X project to turn industrial waste gases into valuable low-carbon products at scale. Originally developed for sustainable protein production, our advanced U-Loop® bioreactor technology has broader industrial potential. In Gas2X, we will develop a continuous gas fermentation pilot platform specifically designed for gaseous substrates to create a more energy-efficient and scalable alternative to conventional fermentation systems. Installed at our Innovation Centre in Kalundborg, the platform will enable the conversion of CO₂, CO, H₂ and methane into low-carbon chemicals and materials. It will also serve as a Carbon Capture and Utilization test site for industries looking to valorise waste gas streams. The project will help establish a national platform for continuous gas-based biomanufacturing and strengthen Denmark’s position in industrial biotechnology. “The potential of gas fermentation is enormous, but the lack of scalable solutions has been a major barrier. With this project, we are taking an important step toward making biobased production from waste gases an industrial reality,” says Jens Dynesen, CSO at Unibio A/S.     Yesterday, we were delighted to have a visit from Soren N, Kannik-Marquardsen, Minister Counsellor Food, Agriculture and Fisheries in Middle East and North Africa, who is based at the Royal Danish Consulate General in Dubai, following our recent announcement of a joint venture with SIIG to build a plant in Saudi Arabia.   The discussion centred on our plans for expansion in the Gulf region whose major focus on providing food security could be aided by our innovative technology for single-cell protein production.   After a tour of our R&D facilities, he went up to our Innovation Centre in Kalundborg to see our vertical loop bioreactor technology at first hand.
