
Silas Klein
Silas Klein Cardoso is Professor of Old Testament and Religious Studies at Faculdade Unida de Vitória (FUV/BR). He holds a Habilitation in Protestant Theology (Old Testament Studies with a focus on ancient Israel and its neighboring cultures; UBE/CH, 2024), a PhD in Religious Studies (UMESP/BR 2019) with a visiting fellowship at the University of Zurich/CH (PDSE CAPES 2018-2019), a MA in Religious Studies (UMESP/BR, 2015) and BAs in Theology (UMESP/BR 2013) and Communication Studies (UMESP/BR 2007). His doctoral research was hailed with the two most prestigious awards in Brazil, the "CAPES Thesis Award 2020" as the best out of 115 dissertations in religious studies/theology, and the "CAPES Grand Thesis Award Bertha Koiffmann Becker" as the best out of 10’790 dissertations in humanities. He has conducted post-doctoral research in Old Testament (UBE/CH, 2020-2023) and History of Religions and Comparative Religions (UZH/CH, 2021-2021 and 2021-2022). He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), European Association for Biblical Studies (EABS), Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Religionswissenschaft (SGR-SSSR), and ABIB-Brazilian Association for Biblical Research (vice-president for 2025-2026). His areas of interest include: hermeneutics of sacred texts (exegesis of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament; interartistic approaches to the Bible); material religion; history of religions/comparative religions (southern Levant; ancient Palestine/Israel); digital humanities; ancient Hebrew paleography; theories of media and religion; archaeology and iconography (Near Eastern; southern Levantine; miniature art); art and religion; ancient history and decoloniality.
