The activity will establish a greenhouse gas emissions baseline for the European space sector and support the identification and quantification of decarbonisation levers, contributing to the development of a coordinated approach to reducing emissions. Are you using space technologies to address environmental and economic challenges in the Arctic region? ESA Space Solutions invites proposals for space-enabled services that support environmental protection, climate resilience and sustainable economic activity across the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. The opportunity supports projects addressing areas such as environmental monitoring and pollution detection, climate impact monitoring, fisheries and aquaculture resilience, food security, sustainable Arctic value chains, and decision-support tools for authorities and operators. Satellite Earth observation, satellite communications and satellite navigation technologies can play an important role in delivering these services. Two ESA-developed technologies originally designed for satellite telemetry are helping Austrian startup energyfamily advance real-time energy management for energy communities. Supported through European Space Agency - ESA Spark Funding Austria, the company's flexiCo project applies two ESA patents to compress, transmit, store and analyse high-frequency energy data. The approach can reduce data footprint by up to 85%, helping turn real-time energy management into an economically scalable solution. By providing real-time insights into energy production and consumption, the solution enables energy communities to make better use of locally generated solar energy while supporting the efficient management of distributed energy assets. The project demonstrates how ESA technologies can be adapted to address challenges beyond the space sector. As noted by Lukas Prenner, Founder and CEO of energyfamily, the ESA patents have helped transform a concept into a scalable commercial product. How can 5G satellite and terrestrial networks work together to deliver ubiquitously digital media and guarantee services continuation at scale? To explore the latest developments and future opportunities in this field, the European Space Agency - ESA and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are bringing satellite and media industry, cloud network technology leaders and operators together at ESA Headquarters in Paris on 6 October 2026 for the "5G-EMERGE Workshop: Satellite and 5G Integration for Media Delivery". The 5G-EMERGE partnership project is an ESA and EBU initiative developing and testing the integration of 5G satellite and terrestrial networks for ubiquitous media delivery for different connectivity scenarios. The workshop will present results and field testing from its first two phases, discuss future deployment and industrialisation opportunities to be art of the new phase ESA 5G EMERGE activity. Less than a month to apply to ESA Earth Observation’s World Agentic Engine (WAE) opportunity. This activity aims to prototype an AI-driven capability that can orchestrate models, data and services through a shared semantic layer, supporting reasoning, prediction, scenario exploration and decision-making across Earth observation domains, while assessing the technical feasibility and economic viability of a European Earth Intelligence ecosystem. The activity includes the development of agentic orchestration capabilities, system integration, multi-model support, pilot use cases and a commercialisation strategy. Supporting companies from incubation to market adoption was a key theme of European Space Agency - ESA’s participation at the Greek Space Tech Forum 2026 (GSTF26) this July, where ESA Business Incubation Centre Greece celebrated its fifth anniversary. During the event, Nick Appleyard, Head of ESA’s Commercialisation Acceleration Department, and Asimina Syriou, Energy Lead for ESA Space Solutions (BASS) discussed how ESA’s ACCESS programme supports companies at different stages of development. Through its ScaleUp element and the ESA Business Incubation Centres (BICs), entrepreneurs can develop and grow innovative ventures, while the BASS element supports the deployment of space-enabled services addressing market and societal needs. The forum also marked a milestone for ESA BIC Greece, operated by Corallia, a Unit of the Athena Research Center. Since 2021, the programme has supported 32 startups, helping entrepreneurs access business support, technical expertise, mentoring and national and European networks. The event concluded with the ESA BIC Greece Startups Competition, where Odes Space was recognised as the winner, showcasing the commercial potential of a new generation of Greek space companies and highlighting the ambitions of the country's growing space innovation ecosystem. European Space Agency - ESA has selected nine finalist projects exploring future commercial opportunities in areas ranging from health and life sciences to in-space manufacturing and space resource applications. The projects were selected through the "Space for Inspiration Academic Challenge", an initiative of ESA BSGN | Business in Space Growth Network designed to identify promising research concepts with long-term commercial potential in space-related markets. The finalists will present their projects at Space for Inspiration 2026, ESA's annual conference on commercial space exploration, taking place on 1–2 September in Copenhagen. One winning team will be selected from each track and receive tailored technical and commercialisation support, with potential pathways towards BSGN Industry Accelerators, ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) and other ESA programmes. ESA Space Solutions is inviting companies to develop space-enabled services and applications that address road and traffic safety challenges. According to the World Health Organization, around 1.35 million people die each year in road traffic crashes, highlighting the need for smarter approaches to road safety and traffic management. To help address this challenge, European Space Agency - ESA's call "Road and Traffic Safety" is seeking pilot projects and innovative applications in areas such as: - Enhancing information exchange - Improving road design, signage and maintenance to reduce accidents - Improving road safety through optimised traffic flow - Protecting non-motorised road users - Improving International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) survey completion By leveraging satellite communications, navigation and Earth observation technologies, companies and teams can develop scalable services with the potential to improve safety and support more efficient transport systems.
