Encouraging and supporting farmers that farm or wish to farm more with nature
About us
The Farming for Nature initiative seeks to acknowledge and support those farmers who farm, or wish to farm, in a way that will improve the natural health of our countryside. There is widespread awareness of the environmental damage that can be caused by the wrong type of farming. We hear about it all the time. There isn’t as much discussion of those that are doing a great job farming for nature, about the positive stories, meaning we don’t have many good role models. This negative narrative can alienate farmers from nature, making them feel apart from it rather than part of it. Encouraging farmers to feel that they are part of the solution, not just the problem, is the first step in a long journey which will require a lot of financial and technical support, new partnerships and new visions. This can hopefully be the start.

🌱 Festival Snippet | BASE Tent – Apples sweet & sour - vinegar, jelly & chutney Every great farm journey has a turning point! During Session 3 at the Farming For Nature Festival, Julie Calder-Potts (sharing the panel with Rod Calder-Potts and Sean McGloin) shared a raw, powerful story about how survival often comes down to making mistakes, adding value, and refusing to give up when things get tough. Julie shared an urgent, inspiring insight that really brought the audience together: "If you're a dairy farmer, why aren't you making butter or ice cream? This is where the future of survival of small farms is. There’s never been such a divide between urban and rural as we're experiencing at the moment... We have to pull that together, add value, and get direct to consumers." Here's a short glimpse of this inspiring session. Don't miss your chance to experience these powerful stories live on the ground next time!
