About us
Seal Rescue Ireland (SRI) is a charity organisation that works around the clock to rescue, rehabilitate and release native seals found sick, injured or orphaned from across the coast of Ireland. As the only seal rescue centre within the Republic of Ireland, we respond to reports nationwide and aim to rehabilitate the pups back to full health so that they can be returned to the wild. SRI strives to promote ocean conservation and sustainability through proactive education, community engagement and research programmes, in order to protect our marine environment and all life within. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok under Seal Rescue Ireland!

Release Day for Cobalt, Amber, Hematite & Snowflake Obsidian🩵 In honour of Amber Glover, who named Jet after her son when she won last years raffle, we are dedicating Jet's release and the releases of Amber, Moss Agate, and Indigo Gabbro this year to her memory and to her sons Jet, Indigo and Moss. We were deeply saddened to hear of Amber’s passing. Her support of our charity meant a great deal to all of the team and the seal pups at SRI. Her legacy will continue to make a difference through the lives she has helped to impact. We are deeply grateful for Amber’s generosity and will remember her with great fondness 💙

What is Umibōzu? 👽 This season, the naming theme is “Legends of the Deep' where we are naming our pups after Water gods, creatures and sea spirits from world mythology. Umi gets his name from Umibōzu, meaning “Sea Monk”, a mysterious sea spirit from Japanese folklore with uncertain origins. It is said to appear before sailors on calm seas, which soon become violent. The creature may destroy ships or demand a bucket or barrel before drowning its victims. According to legend, the only way to escape is to offer it a bottomless barrel, distracting it long enough to sail away. Described as a towering humanoid with inky black skin and large, round eyes visible only from the shoulders up, Umibōzu symbolises the sea’s untamable power and serves as a reminder of humanity’s fragility and the deep respect the Japanese people hold for the ocean.
