A better model doesn't fix that. Better data does. It's the difference between asking "can AI do the work?" and "can your team act on what it's telling you?" Last night in San Francisco, we gathered a small group of senior data and AI leaders for something a little different. No keynote. No slides. Just a frank, roundtable conversation over dinner about the problem most vendors don't want to talk about — the data foundation underneath the AI. The question we put on the table: when AI underperforms in GTM, is it actually a model problem? The room — comprised of CIOs, CDOs, and VPs of Data from some of the most sophisticated data organizations in the world — had a lot to say. A few themes that kept surfacing: 👉 Entity resolution is still the unsolved problem. Most organizations are further from a trusted, canonical data layer than they think — and AI makes the gaps painfully visible. 👉 The build vs. buy conversation is more nuanced than it used to be. The leaders who are winning aren't choosing one or the other — they're being very deliberate about where to own the data layer and where to buy it. 👉 Context matters as much as coverage.
