Innovation and Sustainability Are the New Blueprint for Textiles 👉 Textile suppliers are taking on a much bigger role in product development as buyers look for more than just fabrics. They are expected to support faster sampling, smaller MOQs, certified and traceable materials, and collaborate on developing products that deliver both performance and sustainability. 👉 Innovation is also moving beyond conventional stretch fabrics. Manufacturers are developing smart spandex with integrated sensors, fine-denier spandex for lighter seamless garments, PFAS-free fabrics, 100% recycled elastane, bio-based spandex, and fabrics with moisture management, UV resistance, chlorine resistance and improved durability to meet the growing demand for athleisure, swimwear and outdoor apparel. 👉 At the same time, regulations such as the EU's Digital Product Passport and Green Claims Directive are making certifications, traceability and verified sustainability credentials a sourcing requirement rather than a value addition. Manufacturers are also balancing these expectations while dealing with volatile raw material prices, increasing investment in R&D and sustainability, and continued pressure on pricing. 👉 Apparel Resources spoke with INVIYA Spandex Business | Indorama India Private Limited (INVIYA Spandex), CTC Jaipur, Valji and Sri Shyama Denim to understand the innovations, sourcing trends and market shifts that are shaping the future of textile manufacturing. India's Cotton Imports Set to Hit Record 60 Lakh Bales in 2025-26 India's cotton imports are projected to reach a record 60 lakh bales in the 2025-26 season, driven by textile mills leveraging the Government's temporary 11% import duty exemption. 👉 The Cotton Association Of India (CAI) has revised its import forecast upward from 47 lakh bales, while lowering export estimates as more cotton is absorbed by the domestic industry. With CITI also raising cotton consumption estimates to 348 lakh bales, India's textile sector continues to show robust raw material demand. 👉 The record imports are expected to support mill margins in the short term while reinforcing India's role as a key global cotton buyer. The New Rules of Apparel Sourcing in India 👉 India’s fashion boom is rewriting the rules of apparel sourcing. 👉 For manufacturers and sourcing companies, the implications go beyond turnaround time. Inventory risk, once absorbed quietly through end-of-season discounting, is now visible and expensive in a market this crowded and this fast-moving, and brands have far less appetite to carry it. 👉 Speed and flexibility now sit alongside price as competitive factors, and the ability to test, read and replenish within weeks has become a more valuable capability than the ability to produce in bulk. 👉 Investment in technology is no longer a future priority for India’s domestic sourcing ecosystem. It is already happening, and the gap between businesses that are moving and those that are not is widening. 👉 To understand how this shift is unfolding, Apparel Resources spoke with leading brands, manufacturers and sourcing companies, including SNITCH, Soch Apparels Pvt Ltd, Triburg, ZYOD, Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (KKCL), Ajmera Fashion Limited, Kragbuzz Sports, MEGA BRANDS GROUP and Only For U Designs Pvt.
