Michael Wenzel is an independent scholar who acts as historical consultant to the Local and Napoleonic History Museum at Deutsch-Wagram (Austria). He holds regular lectures at this Museum or at the Heeresgeschichtliche Museum, Vienna. As a researcher he is interested in all aspects of the Battle of Wagram and the campaign of 1809.He was historical consultant for the archaeological excavation of 2017-2018 at Wagram, near the town of Deutsch-Wagram. In the last year he has focused on research into the victims of the Battles of Aspern and Wagram. As the vast documentation on the many hospitals and civilian victims and the high civilian effort could only be found in civil archives, this led to research in the “Wiener Stadt- und Landesarchiv (WStLA)”, the “Landesarchiv Niederösterreich” and the “Steiermärkisches Landesarchiv”. He has written many articles in newsletters, journals or local publications.
