recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the need to view older people as a distinct subculture.
This research paper aims to investigate the contributions of various dimensions of morality on behavioural expressions. The study utilises a theoretical approach to explore the interplay between moral dimensions and human behaviour. Moral dimensions, encompassing different aspects of moral cognition and reasoning, significantly influence individuals' behavioural choices and actions (Johnson, 2010; Smith & Mackie, 2016).
Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development is a prominent theoretical framework that provides insights into the development of moral reasoning and its impact on behaviour. According to Kohlberg, individuals progress through distinct stages of moral reasoning, from focusing on self-interest to higher levels of principled morality (Kohlberg, 1981). The progression through these stages suggests that moral reasoning influences behavioural expressions as individuals develop more nuanced perspectives on moral dilemmas.
Moral Foundations Theory, developed by Graham, Haidt, and Nosek (2013), proposes that individuals possess multiple moral foundations, including care, fairness, loyalty, authority, sanctity, and liberty. These moral foundations shape individuals' moral judgments and subsequently influence their behavioural responses. The interplay between these foundations contributes to the variation in moral behaviour across cultures and societies (Graham et al., 2013).
Social Learning Theory, proposed by Bandura (1977), emphasises the role of observational learning and modelling in shaping moral behaviour. Individuals acquire moral values and behavioural patterns by observing and imitating others, particularly influential role models. This theory underscores the importance of socialisation and social norms in moral development and behavioural expressions.
The dimensions of morality have significant implications for understanding and predicting behavioural expressions in various domains. Prosocial behaviour, characterised by actions intended to benefit others or promote the welfare of society, is influenced by moral dimensions such as empathy, compassion, and altruism (Blasi, 1984). Individuals with higher moral dimensions are likelier to engage in prosocial acts like helping, sharing, and cooperation.
Moral decision-making, another important aspect of behavioural expressions, involves evaluating ethical dilemmas and making choices aligned with one's moral values. The dimensions of moral reasoning and judgment significantly influence decision-making processes. Persons with higher moral reasoning tend to make decisions that prioritise ethical considerations, leading to morally guided behavioural expressions (Haidt & Joseph, 2004).
Furthermore, ethical leadership, characterised by leaders who embody moral dimensions such as integrity, fairness, and accountability, has a profound impact on the behavioural expressions of others. Ethical leaders serve as role models and influence the ethical climate within organisations or communities, shaping the behaviour of their followers (Treviño et al., 2000).
