This study aims to research the possibilities of converting some hydrophytes into energy by reval... more This study aims to research the possibilities of converting some hydrophytes into energy by revaluating them after the harvesting process. These hydrophytes used in the phytoremediation studies disperse naturally in aquatic mediums, sometimes even revealing themselves as invasive species. Chosen hydrophytes samples (Eichornia crassipes, Cyperus alternifolius, Lemna minor, Pistia stratiotes, Typha latifolia, Nasturtium officinale, Houttonia cordata) are analysed in terms of oil rate, biochemical profiles which include elaeostearic compositions, COI/T.20/Doc No 17 (capillary column gas chromatography) and in-house methods. The obtained data are analysed in comparison to the elaeostearics rate and compositions of the plants used in biodiesel procurement (canola, soy, palm, sunflower, Botryococcus and Chlorella oils). Bu çalışmada, Thalassoterapi'de kullanım potansiyelini belirlemek amacıyla sularımızda doğal olar... more Bu çalışmada, Thalassoterapi'de kullanım potansiyelini belirlemek amacıyla sularımızda doğal olarak dağılım gösteren makroalg türlerimizin (Ulva rigida, Gracilaria gracilis, Sargassum vulgare, Cystoseira barbata ve Dictyopteris membranacea) kültür koşullarında vitamin kompozisyonları belirlenmiştir. Vitamin analiz sonuçları alglerin β-karoten (provitamin A), askorbik asit (vitamin C) ve α-tokoferol (vitamin E) yönünden zengin olduğunu göstermektedir. β-karoten (provitamin A) yönünden en zengin 3.25 ± 0.41 mg.100 g-1 miktarıyla Gracilaria gracilis bulunurken vitamin C (askorbik asit) yönünden en zengin 7.42 ± 0.67 mg.100 g-1 miktarıyla Ulva rigida bulunmuştur. Alfa (α)-tokoferol (vitamin E) yönünden en zengin tür ise 5.03 ± 0.12 mg.100 g-1 miktarıyla Dictyopteris membranacea 'dır.

The effects of different light intencities on the Gracilaria verrucosa (Hudson) Papenfuss Culture... more The effects of different light intencities on the Gracilaria verrucosa (Hudson) Papenfuss Culture. In this study, a culture of a red macro algae Gracilaria verrucosa (Hudson) Papenfuss in the continuous water flow indoor 20 lt tank systems with different light intensities was examined. During the study, continuous water exchange was supplied by a water pump from the sea into the tanks. The water flow was recorded as 1. 44 m 3 .day-1. Daily 12 hrs illumination and 12 hrs dark photo-period cycle was applied above the water surface area in the tanks. During the illumination period, 1000 and 3000 lux light intensities were supplied. During the 3-month study period between November 2002 and January 2003, the water temperature was ranged between 8.7 and 20 0 C. During the experiement G. verrucosa biomass and water quality parameters were measured and recorded periodically. From the result of study, it was concluded that the light intensity and temperature affected growth of algae, and there was no significant differences recorded between the algal growth measured grown at 1000 lux and 3000 lux light intensities, even algal growth was measured higher at 3000 lux light intensity.
