The biggest news out of this week’s primary elections in five states across the U.S., including Virginia, came from Falls Church’s own rep, Don Beyer, who told the News-Press in an exclusive interview yesterday that, based on Tuesday’s primary results, the list of potential gains for Democrats in the upcoming midterm election has grown to over 50.

Falls Church-raised author and longtime News-Press copy editor Theodore Edwin “Ted” White died May 24, 2026, at age 88. Born Feb. 4, 1938, in Washington, D.C., White was a prominent
American science-fiction writer, editor and fan, as well as a music critic. He wrote and edited professionally as Ted White. In addition to books and stories published under his own name, he co-wrote novels with Dave van Arnam under the name Ron Archer and with Terry Carr under the pseudonym Norman Edwards.
During his later years, White worked as copy editor of the Falls Church News-Press. He remained in that position until a fall led him to leave his home for an assisted-living facility. White was a prolific contributor to science-fiction fanzines beginning in his teens. In 1968, he won the
Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer. His skill as an essayist is evident in “The Bet,” his memoir of a tense day in 1960 when a dispute over a record owned by music critic Linda Solomon prompted fellow science-fiction writer Harlan Ellison to
