Healthy diets are becoming more expensive. They cost 25% more than they did five years ago. At $4.28 per person per day (adjusted for differences in purchasing power across countries), 2.7 billion people cannot afford one. Lowering the cost of healthy diets is one of the most important investments countries can make to improve nutrition, reduce diet-related non-communicable diseases, and make agrifood systems more resilient and sustainable. Protecting vulnerable communities through nature-based solutions in Cox’s Bazar A monitoring and risk management team from the Bangladesh Humanitarian Fund (BHF) recently visited FAO's landslide risk reduction and slope stabilization activities across 15 Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar. The mission provided an opportunity to demonstrate how specialized bioengineering techniques, such as slope regrading, vegetative stabilization, and bamboo crib walls, help reduce land slide risks, curb soil erosion, and protect lives, shelters and critical community infrastructure from climate-related hocks. Prioritizing accountability to affected populations, the visiting team held a direct Focus Group Discussion with Cash-for-Work beneficiaries to evaluate the socio-economic and protection impacts of the project. The mission concluded with a strategic briefing involving the Camp-in-Charge of Camp 17 and our implementing partner, Acted, focusing on localized coordination mechanisms and frameworks for scaling up Nature-based Solutions in highly hazard-prone settings. Supported by the Bangladesh Humanitarian Fund, this intervention demonstrates how timely humanitarian action can help protect lives while addressing the underlying environmental drivers of risk. #HumanitarianResponse #ClimateResilience #Bioengineering #AgInnovation #AnticipatoryAction
