Dr Maria Kokolaki is a researcher with a background in Medieval and Modern Greek Literature, Greek Folk Studies and Anthropology. She works as EDIP (Laboratory Teaching Staff) at the Faculty of Primary Education of the University of Athens. She worked as an educator in secondary schools. She has also worked for seven years at the Institute of Educational Policy and three years at the Greek Ministry of Education. She was an Honorary Research Associate (2011-2014) at the School of Anthropology and Conservation (University of Kent). She is since 2014 affiliated as External Research Associate of the Centre of Computing and Anthropology (CSAC) of HRAF Advanced Research Centres EU). She was also President and Vice-President of the Greek Society for Ethnology. Her research interests are anthropology of food, cultural heritage, local knowledge and cultural change. As an educator she is interested in educational technology, minorities and multicultural education.

We describe the framework of lifelong learning and TEK on the islands and relate their impact on the design and development of the database and its use in schools and community projects. / Η παρούσα εργασία επικεντρώνεται στην παιδαγωγική χρήση της Βάσης Δεδομένων Βιοποικιλότητας και Εθνοβιολογίας των Νήσων Κουκ (CIBED), ενός συνεργατικού έργου για τη διασύνδεση της επιστημονικής γνώσης για τη βιοποικιλότητα και της παραδοσιακής οικολογικής γνώσης με σκοπό να ανταποκριθεί στις μεταβαλλόμενες συνθήκες, της δημογραφικής και οικοσυστημικής αλλαγής των νησιών. Περιγράφουμε το πλαίσιο της δια βίου μάθησης και της παραδοσιακής οικολογικής γνώσης στα νησιά και συσχετίζουμε την επίδρασή τους στον σχεδιασμό και την ανάπτυξη της CIBED και στη χρήση της σε σχολεία και κοινοτικά προγράμματα.
