Metacognitive teaching strategies have the potential to influence students' learning and performance. Evidence-based metacognition can develop with skilled practice, but many teachers and students in Nigeria struggle to substantially engage in metacognitive practices in the classrooms. This paper tries to look at the critical reasons for embedding metacognition in learning, what students and teachers should do, factors affecting what they do, and challenges they encounter when applying metacognition. The emphasis is narrowed down to fostering students' thinking by encouraging their learning styles or study skills, control, monitoring and facilitating social metacognition. Some recommendations have been derived from the study, which includes: encouraging teachers to apply metacognition to help students learning outcomes; to embed metacognition in the curriculum of schools in Nigeria, etc.

The study examines the effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing and implementing curr... more The study examines the effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing and implementing curriculum in Nigerian schools. Based on the existing literature and the context of Selfdetermination Theory (SDT), the study looks into the contributions of AI in various stages of curriculum development and delivery. The study reveals that AI technologies play important roles in enhancing teaching and learning practices, particularly, it facilitates individualized learning experiences; digitalizes assessment; and impacts curriculum design through analysis of students' performances. The findings show the potential of AI to increase the capacity of learners in education, offering a changing and powerful approach to curriculum development and delivery, which considers individualized needs and enhances the implementation of useful educational contents. The study also identifies the future uses of AI in teaching and learning, emphasizing adaptive learning systems, focused teaching and application of AI-driven online assistants. These positive effects notwithstanding, the study identified some challenges, such as, moral/ethical issues; the need for reskilling in the entire schools or workplaces; and potential displacement of humans by machines. The study recommends among others, for increased funding of schools and effective development of AI technologies in Nigerian schools.

Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria TRCN and its enforcement of standard in teacher educatio... more Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria TRCN and its enforcement of standard in teacher education programme in Nigeria has remained a serious food for thought. This paper focuses on the provisions of the Teachers registration Council of Nigeria TRCN and the extent of its implementation of the provisions among practitioners. It examined the key areas of TRCN provisions such as registration of members, recruitment of teachers, discipline, pension and gratuity. It showcased how TRCN Acts are flagrantly abused in these key areas. The paper suggested the need for periodic enlightenment and sensitization of teachers, students, stakeholders on teacher code of conduct, monitoring of compliance of directives and sanctions, computerization of the operations of TRCN among others. It concluded that effective enforcement of the provisions of TRCN and its code of conduct are vital instrument for professionalization of teaching and attainment of national integration in Nigeria.

The paper focuses on quality teacher education as a panacea to achieving and sustenance of nation... more The paper focuses on quality teacher education as a panacea to achieving and sustenance of national integration. Stratified random sampling technique was used to sample 300 teachers of secondary schools in Onitsha education zone and NCE students of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra State. The study was guided by three research questions. A structured questionnaire designed by the researchers and duly validated by experts was employed to gather data. The data collected were subjected to analysis using simple mean. The result showed that poor academic preparation of entrants, examination malpractices, inadequate funding, sexual harassment among others have continued to lower the quality of teachers produced for our school system and strongly advocated the repositioning of our teacher education to produce highly motivated and efficient teachers that will possess the required skills, talents, and knowledge which are important tools for achieving national integration. Some relevant recommendations were made.

It discussed various perspectives in which education is commercialized such as sale of low quality textbooks at high prices, commercialization of admission process, teachers' recruitment, buying of grades, etc. The reasons for commercialization of education and its implications were also highlighted. The paper recommended adequate budgetary allocations, upward review of teachers' salaries, remunerations, working conditions and environment. The need for proper monitoring of schools by supervising ministries and employing the services of economic and financial crimes commission and related agencies to investigate and punish financial crimes and irregularities in schools as strong measures to reverse quality of teacher education and the tone of education generally.
