This research focuses on the swear words on Instagram because so many swear words can be found on... more This research focuses on the swear words on Instagram because so many swear words can be found on this social media. The Instagram @lilnasx account is one of the examples gets swear words from social media users, especially since he is famous. This research used qualitative research method to analyze swear words in Instagram comments column of @lilnasx account taken from June to September 2022. This research showed that there are four types and five functions of swear words. The types of swear words found are one dysphemistic, 30 idiomatically, 31 abusively and 38 emphatically from 100 comments. Meanwhile, the functions of swear words found are 23 abusive, 19 humoristic, 20 expletive, three euphemistic and 35 habitual from 100 comments.

The research background provides all the illustrations for the research paper. This study, therefore, aims to investigate the structure of the background of the students' final project by looking at the moves and steps. Descriptive qualitative was used as a research method. In this study, there were 9 (nine) students' final project used as research objects. The data collection technique used was the document analysis. The results showed that moves 1 establishing a research territory and move 3 Occupying the niche found in the background of the students' final project. Steps contained in move 1 were steps 1 and 3, namely making topic generalization by providing background information about the topic and reviewing an item of previous research by introducing and reviewing the results of research previously in the area. The step-in move 3 was the outlining purposes.

This study aims to find out what kinds of turn-taking strategies are used in Lincoln-Douglas deba... more This study aims to find out what kinds of turn-taking strategies are used in Lincoln-Douglas debate final round between Nehal Chigurupati as the affirmative speaker and Grace Johannes as the negative speaker. This study has two purposes: the first is to find out what kinds of turn-taking strategies are used by the Lincoln-Douglas debate, and the second is to find out the most dominant type of turn-taking strategies used by the Lincoln-Douglas final debate. A descriptive qualitative method was used in this study while Stenstrom’s (1994) theory was applied to analyze the data. The results show that 31 data were found which consist of taking the turn strategies (16), holding the turn (10), and yielding the turn (5). The findings imply that the most dominant strategy used by the Lincoln-Douglas debate is turn-taking strategies

Pemanfaatan video dalam pembelajaran jarak jauh merupakan salah satu solusi agar anak asuh tetap mendapat kesempatan yang sama untuk mendapatkan ilmu. Melalui media Canva, tim dosen berupaya membuat materi Bahasa Inggris level beginner yang tidak hanya menarik namun juga interaktif agar pembelajaran tidak terasa membosankan. Pelaksanaan PKM ini dilaksanakan mulai dari awal Januari 2021 hingga November 2021 dengan rincian kegiatan: persiapan selama satu bulan, penyampaian materi selama 10 bulan, dan penyusunan laporan selama satu bulan. Kebutuhan untuk mengembangkan jejaring ke level internasional membuat lembaga filantropi perlu me... more Kebutuhan untuk mengembangkan jejaring ke level internasional membuat lembaga filantropi perlu menyiapkan versi bahasa Inggris bagi konten website (situs web) dan dokumen-dokumen mereka. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mencoba menginvestigasi teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh institusi tersebut untuk menerjemahkan konten situs web dan dokumen berbahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Data, dalam bentuk konten situs web dan profil perusahaan yang ditulis dalam bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris, diperoleh dari alamat situs web resmi salah satu lembaga filantropi yang berbasis di Bandung, Indonesia dan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis interaktif. Dari 155 data yang dikumpulkan, 119 di antaranya dapat dianalisis lebih lanjut. Observasi ini menghasilkan 6 tipe teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh lembaga filantropi untuk menerjemahkan konten situs web dan profil perusahaan mereka ke dalam bahasa Inggris, yaitu terjemahan harfiah, kalke, amplifikasi, adaptasi, transposisi, dan generalisasi. Teknik terjemahan harfiah merupakan teknik yang dominan digunakan (dalam 93 data). Penelitian ini membawa dua implikasi penting, baik secara teoretis maupun praktis. Pada dimensi teoretis, penelitian ini diharapkan menambah pengetahuan mengenai penerjemahan bahasa Indonesia-Inggris dan sebaliknya. Secara praktis, penelitian ini dapat memberikan wawasan tambahan bagi praktisi penerjemah maupun lembaga filantropi di Indonesia mengenai penerapan teknik penerjemahan yang tepat untuk menarik perhatian audiens.

This research is under the pragmatic studies particularly focusing on the use of presuppositions ... more This research is under the pragmatic studies particularly focusing on the use of presuppositions found in 12 newspaper car advertisements. The researcher used descriptive research method because all the data is obtained from the taglines on advertisement displays and is reviewed based on theory of presuppositions. The data sources include newspaper Pikiran Rakyat and Pasundan Express, and the analysis is based on the theory proposed by Yule (1996) about the type presuppositions to find out the types frequently used in the car advertisements. The result shows that there are three types of presupposition used, namely, 7 existential (50%), 2 factive (14.3%), and 5 lexical (35.7%). The type of presupposition mostly used is Existential Presupposition because existential is the assumption that convey the existence of the car.

The citation is used to support claims academically. The citation is described as a way to interact with the readers and to acknowledge other scholars. Viewing from Appraisal framework developed by Martin and White [1] which is based on Halliday’s interpersonal metafunction, this activity is described as Engagement system. This study focused on exploring acknowledgement, a branch of Engagement system, found in Mechanical Engineering RAs published by Elsevier. Applying qualitative method, the data were taken from five research articles of Mechanical Engineering in 2021. Thus, the data were examined using the framework of Engagement system. What can be highlighted from the results is that the acknowledgment serving as citation may be realized by projection of mental and verbal clauses with limited choice of lexical verbs, such as report, emphasize, propose, realizing both types of process. This study investigates the technique of translating mechanical engineering terms from Indonesian... more This study investigates the technique of translating mechanical engineering terms from Indonesian to English in accredited national journal abstracts and the quality of the translation results. Qualitative descriptive is used as a research method. The abstracts taken as data are from the national journals accredited in 2019 and 2020, consisting of 59 articles. In collecting data, document analysis is used as a tool to collect data. The results showed that adaptation techniques, common equivalent techniques, literal translation techniques, calque techniques, and pure borrowing techniques are techniques used in translating mechanical engineering terms, and the average value of the quality of the translation results is good.

The research design is a case study through a qualitative and descriptive method based on questionnaire and observations involving 58 students of the 3-year Diploma of Business Administration Study Program. The result shows that the focus they took was the grammatical aspect which implies their own barrier.

This study investigates self-revision in essay writing conducted by 6 students. The analysis is b... more This study investigates self-revision in essay writing conducted by 6 students. The analysis is based ondetermining common revised errors. The data have been reduced based on Language Related Episodes (LREs). The result shows that there are revision consisting of 1 change in punctuation both in first and second essay, 5 changes spelling in first essay, 19 changes vocabulary in the first essay and 6 changes in second essay, 25 changes in word form correction in the first essay and 27 changes in the second essay, and there are 19 changes in sentence level the first essay and 13 changes in the second one. This indicates that the self-revision is predominantly focused onthe word level changes particularly in morphology. Keywords: self-revision, common revised errors, Language Related Episodes (LREs)
