Cleared for flight. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a Special Airworthiness Certificate in the Experimental Category to Heart Aerospace for its X1 demonstrator, authorizing the company to begin flight testing of the X1 immediately. The certificate follows more than a year of collaboration with the FAA and an extensive ground-testing program spanning structural, propulsion, systems, and low- and high-speed taxi testing. With FAA authorization now in hand, our team is completing final preparations for first flight of the X1, which will be the largest electric aircraft ever flown. Let's make Europe the Electro Union! Today, the European Commission presented its Electrification Action Plan – adopting the vision of becoming the world's first electro-continent. A vision we set out back in April together with 100+ European startups, investors, and corporations. Europe's 27 member states now have a shared destination to build toward: put a stop to the recurring fossil fuel crises and build an economy that runs on cheap, abundant, homegrown electricity. Getting there will not be easy. Electrifying a continent is an enormous undertaking. But what's on the other side is worth every bit of it. Cheap, homegrown electricity is not one policy among many. It is the foundation on which everything else becomes possible. Regulators, investors, and member states now have a direction. The Electro Union coalition will keep pushing to turn that direction into delivery – and for the plan to include a target of running 50% of the economy on clean, domestic electricity when it is assessed later this year as part of the post-2030 Energy Union package. 🚨🚨🚨 HIRING CHIEF OF STAFF 🚨🚨🚨 One of the things I'm proud of at terralayr: what happens to people after they take the Chief of Staff role. Kaspar Klemm was our first. He helped build the machine that runs terralayr today, and just left to found his own company, Cepter. One of the smartest guys I know, ultra hard worker, heavy on the chickens at lunch. I am glad I get to be a small angel in his company. Leo Klie took over and did it his own way. Different board prep, different execution, different (and mostly better!) questions than mine in most meetings, and very dry humour. He's now off to his next big chapter (still secret), and he's earned every bit of it. Two Chiefs of Staff. Two big leaps. This job a launchpad. Now seat number three is open: You work directly with me on whatever matters most that week. You get massive exposure to the senior leadership team, the board, the cap table, and senior external CEOs, politicians and key partners. Fundraising, board prep, new markets, building things that don't exist yet. Some weeks strategy, some weeks spreadsheets. I call you possibly (probably) more than your spouse, the deadlines are often short and the workload is immense. Who you are: a former management consultant, investment banker, founder, PE professional or similar. Energy background is a plus, not a must. You are VERY structured yet hyper biased for action, and you have super high agency. You more than dabble with AI, and your understanding of being AI native goes beyond letting ChatGPT correct your mail draft. You're very competitive, but you win with the team. People like you, and want to have a beer with you. In short: you've demonstrated you play to win, wherever life has put you. I won't sugarcoat it: this role is challenging and very demanding. IMHO It's also one of the most rewarding jobs you'll find. A front-row seat to building energy infrastructure at scale, in the middle of the biggest shift the industry has seen since the Industrial Revolution, at one of the best capitalised players in Europe, starting in the most pivotal market in Europe -> Germany. If Kaspar and Leo are the benchmark, this won't be your job in two years. It'll be the thing that launched your next one (maybe at terralayr, maybe your own firm etc.). MONDAY MUSING: EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR LIVER IN 30 MINUTES The liver is one of the most misunderstood organs in the human body. So I recently joined the team at BBC Science Focus on the Instant Genius podcast to pack the future of liver health, disease management, and breakthrough therapies into a punchy, 30-minute primer. If you don't have 30 minutes right now, here are the three big takeaways: 1. We are entering a golden age of liver research. No organ does more heavy lifting to keep you healthy, yet it remains shrouded in misconceptions. Thankfully, global scientific interest is finally catching up on topics from why coffee might be good for your liver to it being your GPS. 2. Liver disease is not a failure of personal resolve. Stigma is a terrible barrier to care. Because the vast majority of patients lack access to timely treatment, we must treat this as a Bio-Psycho-Social challenge. True equity means moving past a "health lottery system" where a transplant is the only saving grace. 3. The future is antifibrotic. To truly change patient outcomes, we have to look beyond current therapeutic successes. The next frontier belongs to antifibrotic medicines that can fundamentally reverse damage and actively restore health.
