Nowadays, one of the crucial changes that are triggered by fast urban regeneration processes is t... more Nowadays, one of the crucial changes that are triggered by fast urban regeneration processes is the growing visibility of social class spatial segregation. One of the most concrete examples of these spatial changes is evident in the case of secured and guarded housing estates (or so-called "gated communities") which became gradually widespread in Turkey since the 2000s. This study addresses ways in which these "secured" and "guarded" housing estates, that are becoming increasingly common in Turkey, are presented as 'new life projects' to middle and upper-middle class consumer masses through television advertisements. Further, the reproduction of ongoing social injustice and inequalities, existing class differentiations and gender stereotypes is discussed through the various concepts, themes and representations used and imagery observed in the advertisements. Finally, the results of content analysis, conducted by the authors on the selected TV advertisements of these housing projects in Istanbul and Ankara, televised between 2013 and 2016 within this framework will be evaluated.

Kendimizi tanımlarken kullandığımız referans noktalarının çoğaldığı ve kimliklerin iç içe geçtiği, parçalandığı, tek bir kimlikle kendini tanımlamanın imkânsızlaştığı bu zamanlarda Türkiye'de Ermeni kimliği; gayrimüslim azınlık grubuna, dünyanın farklı yerlerine dağılmış Ermeni milletine mensup olma ve Anadolu kültürünün önemli parçası olma hali arasında gelip giden bir seyir izliyor. Kültürel, tarihsel dinamikler ve bunların sonucunda oluşan farklı aidiyet kategorileri de Türkiye'de tekil ve durağan bir Ermeni kimliğinden söz etmemizi zorlaştırıyor.

Nicolas Ridout “Performans ve Demokrasi” makalesinde bugünün tiyatrosunun yarattığı katılımcı çer... more Nicolas Ridout “Performans ve Demokrasi” makalesinde bugünün tiyatrosunun yarattığı katılımcı çerçeve ile Atina polisinin mitik topluluk haline geri dönemeyeceğimizi kabul etmekle birlikte demokratik bir direnişi mümkün kılacak ölçüler ortaya koyabileceğinin altını çizer (Ridout, 2008, 19). Toplumsal muhalefet alanlarının gitgide daraldığı son on beş yılın politik ikliminde tiyatro, ödenekli kurumların dışında bağımsız topluluklarla üretim alanını genişleterek metinsel, mekansal ve performatif açıdan özellikle genç kuşakların kendilerini ifade etme kanallarından birine dönüşmüştür. Bununla birlikte, özellikle İstanbul ve Ankara gibi büyük şehirlerdeki bağımsız topluluklar ve bu toplulukların üretimleri, alanın aktörleri için (üretici ve alımlayıcı) kolektif bir varoluş biçimini mümkün kılmaktadır. Yine üretimler açısından bakıldığında dünya tiyatrosu ile paralel olarak Türkiye tiyatrosunda 1970’lerde yoğun bir biçimde kendini gösteren politik tiyatro yapma eğilimi sönümlenirken, bireysel olandan yola çıkan ve politik alanın sınırlarını genişleten başka bir tarihsel momente geçildiğini söylemek mümkündür. Bu noktadan hareketle bu bildiri, 2000’li yılların ortalarından itibaren İstanbul ve Ankara’da kurulan ve bu şehirlerin seyircileri için farklı bir deneyim alanı yaratan bağımsız tiyatroların ürettikleri toplumsal ilişkiler ağı üzerinden kentin kamusallığı içinde yeni bir politik anlam yaratma potansiyelini ve demokratik siyaset yapma olanaklarının gelişimine sunabilecekleri katkıyı tartışmayı hedeflemektedir. Araştırmacının doktora tezi kapsamında İstanbul ve Ankara’da iki buçuk yılı aşkın bir sürede tamamlanan ve tiyatro çalışanı (tiyatro oyuncusu, oyun yazarı, yönetmen, dramaturg) ve tiyatro mekân sahipleri ile gerçekleştirilen 52 adet derinlemesine mülakat bu bildiriye kaynaklık etmektedir. Gerçekleştirilen saha çalışmasının verilerine dayanarak bugünün parçalı toplumsallığı içinde siyasal alan tiyatro ilişkisi; gruplar arası dayanışma örüntüleri, sansür mekanizması, politik- tiyatral estetik ve devlet ödeneği gibi bir kaç başlık temelinde incelenecektir. Araştırma sürerken gerçekleşen kimi mesleki toplantılar, buluşmalar ve provalar süresince araştırmacı tarafından yapılan katılımcı gözlemler de verilerin bir diğer parçasını oluşturmaktadır.

The goal of the conference is to provide a place for scholars, experts, professionals and activists with interdisciplinary backgrounds related to gender and space relations to exchange new ideas and latest researches. Conference seeks to create a ground to examine relations between various disciplines such as urban planning, architecture, politics, gender and women's studies, anthropology, environmental studies, sociology, and history. In North Cyprus and Turkey, although there is a limited number of studies entitled itself in the category of feminist geography, in recent years there is an increasing interest focusing and examining gender and space relations by various disciplines, such as gender and women's studies, political science, sociology, anthropology, history. Increasing numbers of articles and graduate degree dissertations, which based on peculiar field studies, display the specialty on gender space relations. We aim to promote intergenerational and intersectional dialogues among feminist scholars, researchers, and activists around the theme of practicing gender and space.

Juvenile delinquency is common in Istanbul and there are penal institutions of different structures. Convicted juvenile stay in Istanbul Ümraniye Education House, imprisoned Juvenile stay in Maltepe Juvenile Closed Penitentiary Institution, Juvenile who cannot be accommodated in juvenile institution stay in Maltepe L Type Closed Prison. Prisoner girls and children aged 0-6 staying with prisoner mothers are held in Bakırköy Penitentiary Institution. These spaces are the tools of the criminal law in Istanbul, but over the years they have turned into living spaces that produce violations of rights against children. Prisons have also moved away from their functions for reintegrating delinquent children into society.

Toplumsal dışlanma, taciz, yargılama ve baskı bu sorunların en çok bilinenleridir. Kadınların düşük eğitim ve ekonomik düzeyleri ise onlara daha büyük zorluklar getirmektedir. Çalışmada toplumsal sorunlarla mücadele eden kadınların hayata tutunmak için geliştirdikleri stratejileri anlamaya çalışılmıştır.

This thesis aims to analyze Armenian ethnic identity construction, the dynamics influencing this ... more This thesis aims to analyze Armenian ethnic identity construction, the dynamics influencing this process, and the varying boundaries of this identity in Yeşilköy, one of the regions of Istanbul where Armenians prefer to live. The primordial as well as constructed aspects of Armenian identity in Turkey and the influence of objective and subjective definitions of Armenian collective identity constitute the main themes of this thesis. From that perspective, homeland, history, myths, collective remembering, religion, language, rituals, the sense of being a member of a minority group, and perception of citizenship play a crucial role. Besides, relationalism, interaction with others, daily life practices, and relations with the nation-state appear as the other crucial elements of this identity construction process. Armenian identity in Turkey is multi-layered, situational, and fluid. Together with the elements that provide the rigidity of identity such as religion, there are other loyalties such as ethnicity, traditions, and language which give rise to plural and flexible identities. Armenian communities outside the national boundaries also serve for the self-positioning of the Armenians in Turkey.
