🥔 Overcoming the Elements: Securing Potato Late Blight Trials! 🌦️ When testing crop protection solutions, high disease pressure is the ultimate requirement. But what happens when nature doesn't cooperate? Our experts take control. At our station in northern France, despite extraordinary weather conditions that were unfavorable to the development of potato late blight, our internal teams, hard at work for several weeks, managed to align the planets to obtain results in our trials. Misting and artificial inoculations at the opportune moments allow us today to have plots that are 100% destroyed and meet the expectations of our clients. 🎯 You request, we deliver! 🙌 ➡️ Reach out to our team to secure your plots for the next season. 🌾 Real-World Agronomy: Inside Our Cereals Platform for Seeds or Efficacy Trials 🚜 When it comes to broad-acre crop protection, evaluating product efficacy or testing varieties under authentic field conditions is the key to generating robust, reliable agronomic data. At Staphyt, our technical teams specialize in large-scale cereal trials set directly within commercial agricultural plots. Here is a look at our approach to ensuring top-tier trial quality, using our platform in Belgium as an example: 🌍 Real Farming Contexts: We deliberately choose to conduct some of our trials in farmers' fields. This allows us to carefully select plots based on specific pedoclimatic contexts, diverse varietal choices, and real-world cultural practices. The result? Data that truly reflects the exact conditions growers face on the ground. 🦠 Authentic Disease Pressure: For our disease evaluations, we work with 99% natural contamination, ensuring your products are tested against genuine, naturally occurring pathogen populations. However, we know that relying entirely on nature can sometimes be a headache for data collection! That is why, when specific disease pressure is required, our experts are fully equipped to perform targeted inoculations, such as for Fusarium, to secure the trial's success. 📅 The Trial Lifecycle Autumn: Sowing is carried out directly by our partner farmers, seamlessly integrating the trial into their standard crop rotation. Early Spring: Our Staphyt field teams step in to meticulously set up the trial plots, initiate precise applications, and begin rigorous monitoring. Mid to Late July: Harvest time! Depending on the year's climate, our teams collect the final yield and quality data, wrapping up a season of thorough evaluation. Securing reliable data means working hand-in-hand with agricultural realities. A huge thank you to our dedicated field technicians in Belgium and everywhere else in Europe and to our partner farmers for making these trials possible every single year! 👏 Remi WILLEM | Florian Meunier | Jeanne Salé | Robert Baumgartner | Pascal Basta #Staphyt #FieldTrials #Agroscience #Cereals #Agronomy #CropProtection #EfficacyTrials #Fusarium  #Seeds #VarietyTrials #Expert

New consumer health-based guidance values have been set for trifluoroacetic acid! EFSA has just updated (22 July 2026) the consumer health-based guidance values (HBGVs) for trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) by lowering the ADI and setting an ARfD. https://lnkd.in/d7RgAQP3 https://lnkd.in/d2XxQi_w The toxicity of TFA has been an important topic for many years and several authorities such as UBA and RIVM have raised concerns regarding potentially harmful or unacceptable effects of TFA. TFA is formed as a degradation product from various chemicals including several active substances used in plant protection products and due to its toxicity, the exposure to TFA should be considered in the consumer risk assessment. The outcome of the consumer risk assessment is dependent on residues of TFA found in food and drinking water and the level of ADI and ARfD values set to that substance. The previous HBGVs (ADI of 0.05 mg/kg bw/day, no ARfD set) for TFA were set during the peer review of the pesticide risk assessment of the active substance flurtamone (EFSA, 2017). Since then, further assessments have been conducted including a recommendation by ECHA Risk Assessment Committee to classify TFA as Acute Oral Tox. 4 (H302); TFA and TFA Na as Acute InhalationTox. 3 (H331), as Reproductive toxicity 1B for effects on development (H360Df) and as PMT and vPvM. Due to concerns raised by different parties, the European Commission asked EFSA to provide a scientific report, to revise acceptable daily intake (ADI) and acute reference dose (ARfD), for TFA. EFSA launched a targeted call for data from 6 August to 7 October 2024 and established an EFSA Working Group. Based on the weight of evidence, the WG concluded that TFA and TFA Na are unlikely to be genotoxic. The WG established an ADI of 0.014 mg/kg body weight (bw) per day based on the extended one-generation reproductive toxicity study in rats. It represents a decrease of 72% of the acceptable value! In addition, an ARfD of 0.07 mg/kg bw was derived based on the same study. These changes have a high impact on the outcome of the consumer risk assessment from food and drinking water potentially containing TFA. Thus, they can negatively affect the risk assessment outcomes of several TFA forming pesticides that are still approved in the EU such as  Beflubutamid Flonicamid Fluazinam Fluometuron Flutolanil Oxyfluorfen Trifloxystrobin Our team in Staphyt will be happy to guide you and support you in reviewing the consumer risk assessment of your concerned active substances
