
Miriam Adelman
I have degrees in Sociology from the National University of Mexico (undergraduate) and New York University (M.Phil). I completed my doctoral work at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil (Interdisciplinary Program in Human Sciences) in 2004 and have been a sociology professor in Brazil (UFPR-Curitiba) since 1992, where I co-founded the university's interdisciplinary gender studies research group (Núcleo de Estudos de Gênero, 1994). I have post-docs from the University of Barcelona (2009) and EHESS (Paris, 2016). In addition to my commitment to the social sciences, I am also a writer and translator. working with Spanish, Portuguese, French and English (my native language). At present I am semi-retired, which means I no longer do undergrad teaching but continue to teach and research in conjunction with the graduate programs of Sociology and Literature, UFPR. Abstract: The eleven photos I present here are part of an ongoing project that documents
human-horse relationships in urban and semi-urban areas in different parts of Brazil. It
highlights, among other things, the blurred boundaries between rural and urban, and the
human need to have members of other animal species present in their lives.
