A beacon of culture and community for the city of Sheffield, our early designs for the refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Crucible Theatre will secure the venue’s future, expanding its capacity to host the World Snooker Championship and critically acclaimed productions. A redesigned entrance and balcony overlooking Tudor Square expand the footprint, enlivening the public realm and together with wider proposals, will secure the venue’s long-term artistic and commercial resilience. 𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗘𝗿𝗮. We are pleased to share that our proposals for the regeneration of the New Era Estate in Hoxton have received planning approval. Developed for Dolphin Living and The Hill Group, the project has been shaped with the close support of the existing community. Our highly contextual design doubles the number of homes on this well-connected site, redefining the edges of the urban block to respond individually to each surrounding street while reinstating the ground-floor parade of shops. At the centre of the block, an outdated hard courtyard and parking area will be transformed into a generous, car-free landscaped garden, establishing a green and safe heart for the neighbourhood. Designed to deliver a 50/50 tenure split, half of homes will be for market sale while the remaining 50% are offered for affordable, intermediate rent, with the majority set at 20% below London Living Rent in perpetuity, and offered to current residents. New Era provides a vital blueprint for community-led urban densification and is the first scheme of its kind in London. #estateregeneration #londonarchitecture #eastlondon

Our latest advisory research for Historic England explores three ways London can progress towards its housing needs using heritage as a catalyst for sustainable, character-led homes. Building on our work in Complex City, 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩, 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨: 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘯 looks to the city itself for answers. Examining historical typologies through detailed maps, data, and case studies—from mansion blocks to terraces—we developed three core pillars for character-led growth: adaptive re-use, sensitive intensification, contextual transformation. Some of London's best-loved historic areas are already its densest, showing that density—when done the right way—can be good.
