Today, on World Drowning Prevention Day, we're raising awareness of the risks around water and sharing simple advice that helps keep people safe. At ABP, safety is at the heart of everything we do. As the UK's largest ports operator, our colleagues work around water every day, and we understand the importance of respecting the water and being prepared for the unexpected. Ports and docks are working environments and the water around them can be particularly dangerous. Strong currents, deep water, hidden hazards and cold water shock can quickly put people at risk. Never enter the water in or around a port or dock area, and always follow safety signage and barriers. If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember the RNLI's lifesaving advice: Float to Live. Lie on your back, keep your airway clear, relax and control your breathing until you can call for help or reach safety. ABP Southampton recently welcomed the Glovis Lighthouse, the largest vehicle carrier by capacity ever to call at the port. Arriving at Solent Gateway on 14th July during its maiden voyage, Southampton was the vessel's first port of call in Europe. With capacity for 10,800 car equivalent units (CEU) and measuring 230 metres in length, the Glovis Lighthouse is among the largest vehicle carriers operating worldwide today. The vessel berthed at Solent Gateway's recently deepened and extended berth, showcasing how investment in Southampton's infrastructure is enabling us to accommodate the next generation of automotive vessels and support growing global trade. The Port of Immingham has been selected by ETFuels as the location for a first-of-a-kind advanced fuels refinery that will establish a new manufacturing industry in the Humber and strengthen the UK's position as a leader in next-generation aviation fuels. Associated British Ports (ABP) is preparing to launch a number of competitive procurement opportunities for the supply of onshore wind turbines to support renewable energy projects across its Humber ports.   These procurements form part of ABP's ongoing investment in sustainable infrastructure, decarbonisation and energy resilience, helping to support the UK's transition to a low-carbon future.   Tender opportunities will be managed through the ABP In-Tend Supplier Portal, with suitably qualified turbine manufacturers and suppliers invited to participate in accordance with the requirements of each project.   ABP looks forward to engaging with the supply chain as these opportunities progress across the Humber region. This weekend celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Port of Goole - the most inland port on the Humber. Yesterday (Friday) an exhibition opened at Goole Museum celebrating the life and works of port artist Reuben Chappell; and today (Saturday) a flotilla will mark the 200th anniversary by sailing the canal to the docks and back again. The Port of Immingham welcomed Keir Mather, Minister for Maritime, Aviation and Decarbonisation yesterday at an event to mark a major milestone with the development of Immingham Eastern Ro-Ro Terminal (IERRT), a joint investment by Associated British Ports (ABP) and Stena Line. The Minister officially signed one of the marine piles alongside Andrew Dawes, Carl-Johan Hellner, and Dean Lee MSc (Law) FRICS MCIArb, from Dragados UK & Ireland at the start of the marine works to deliver the infrastructure for the £200+ million freight ferry terminal due to open in 2028. On a special night in Cardiff Castle we were delighted to be joined by Professor Laura McAllister CBE, FLSW, FRSA who brought her very timely expert perspectives on both Welsh politics and international football! It's an incredibly exciting time for ABP's five Welsh ports - Newport, Cardiff, Barry, Port Talbot and Swansea - with tens of millions of pounds of investment in progress and new jobs being created. The future is even more exciting, with bold visions for further investment in both major trade enabling and energy transition projects. None of this is possible or will be possible without working together with partners across business and civil society.
