Lauren and Justine from the Nottingham Oral Health Team attended 'The Bread and Butter Thing' Food Club in Carlton. The session provided practical advice on keeping mouths healthy, including good toothbrushing habits, healthy eating messages, and signposting people to dental services. “The Bread and Butter Thing” supports thousands of families through affordable food clubs, helping communities access low-cost food while reducing food waste. Volunteers are at the heart of the service and by equipping them with key oral health messages, we can help more people receive simple, evidence-based advice as part of everyday community conversations. #OHINottinghamshire #OHImprovement #NottsCC

leading provider of community dental services with clear social mission to improve oral health in evermore communities
About us
Award winning, employee owned, social enterprise, providing high quality community dental services to the NHS across much of east and central England. Since transitioning from the NHS in 2011, we have grown by 167%. Our vision is to be a leading provider of community dental services and we have a clear social mission to improve oral health in evermore communities. Our patients are some of the most vulnerable in society; including people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and severe dental anxiety, referred into our services by GDPs and other health and social care professionals. We treat over 62,000 patients a year in our clinics, our mobile clinics and through our prison contracts. We pride ourselves on the quality of patient care we offer. We have clinics in Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Essex, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. CDS operates out of hours and domiciliary dental care contracts. We deliver evidence based oral health improvement programmes to improve the oral health of vulnerable people. We are dentally led with a focus on providing first class dental care, and the Chair of our Board is a former Deputy Chief Dental Officer for England. As a social enterprise, we have well defined values. Any surplus we make is re-invested back into patient care and into our local communities through our charity, CDS Action. CDS is 100% employee owned. Employee elected directors sit on our Board and all employees share collective responsibility and accountability for the performance of the business and the care we provide for our patients.

Built from old barrels, bits of wood and tied together with string, the good ship CDS, a finely honed river craft that had been months in top secret development, finally took to the water. On board was a dastardly floss-loving crew: Captain Back-Tooth, Admiral Amalgam, First Mate Fluoride, Buccaneer Brushwell and Deckhand Denture 🦷 The first heat got off to a dramatic and smoky start when our flare misfired, engulfing the raft before dramatically exploding, leaving a deckhand putting out a smallish fire while the rest of the brave crew attempted to paddle in roughly the same direction! Despite this, we finished an impressive 3rd place in our first heat with no one lost overboard or forced to walk the plank. We remain convinced (can you have VAR in a raft race?) that we should have had a front-row position for the final, but after some "helpful advice" from rival teams, we mysteriously found ourselves moved further back. In the closing stages of the race for 3rd place, we were neck and neck with the opposing raft before finally and heroically pulling ahead. Moments later, our competitors sadly suffered a catastrophic barrel failure, capsized and ended up swimming to shore as their raft broke up mid river. So a very credible third place was secured. The mighty good ship CDS remained sturdy, watertight and proudly flew the CDS flag all the way to the finish line. We didn’t lose anyone overboard, which is a miracle. CDS‑CIC provides specialist NHS community dental care across Bedfordshire, supporting people with complex additional needs access the dental care they need to thrive. This afternoon, however, our only mission is trying to keep the wobbly raft upright, not falling in the river and raising money for a worthy cause. All this silliness was for Cancer Research UK. 👉https://lnkd.in/ezW-pT7w Photo credits: Ben Luckman, https://lnkd.in/eckPTA3X
