As we continue to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day sponsored by #INWED1919, we highlight Kate Williams, APAC Regional Sales Manager for Keeler, a Halma company in the Healthcare Sector working to end preventable vision loss. Kate’s story reminds us that engineering careers do not follow one fixed route. Her Biomedical engineering degree opened doors to commercial leadership, customer insight, product improvement and global market growth. It gave her a way of thinking that continues to shape how she solves problems, builds trust and creates impact. “I wish more young people considered engineering as a study pathway,” Kate said. “It opens so many doors.” For Kate, those doors have led her across Halma’s sectors, into Keeler's hospitals and university customers, and now across Asia Pacific. Today is Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States and recognises the resilience, culture and contributions of African American communities. The day goes back to 19 June 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. For colleagues who observe Juneteenth, we honour the significance of the day. And for all of us, it’s a chance to learn more, reflect and continue building a more inclusive culture together.
