Taking part in my first #FIA2026 as UK National Armaments Director reminded me of how lucky we are to have such a fantastic supply chain and such steadfast allies. It also highlighted the critical imperative to keep building our industrial base into a national strategic asset and economic powerhouse.   It was particularly great to spend time with partners BAE Systems, Airbus Defence and Space, Leonardo, MBDA, Saab UK and others, and join our new Defence Secretary Wes Streeting throughout the day. Collaborating at events like these is vital for us to remain at the forefront of global innovation, while backing British, investing in regions across the UK and developing exportable sovereign capabilities.   During the show, the National Armaments Director Group announced Project Bowline, a £20m investment to develop advanced hypersonic targeting, which will support UK jobs, strengthen our AUKUS partnership and inject £2m into the supply chain, with a third going directly to UK SMEs.   The show also delivered some genuinely impressive examples of what UK industry can achieve. A personal highlight was seeing Kraken Technology Group's K3 SCOUT up close, a first-of-its-kind uncrewed surface vessel capable of being launched onto the water from an Airbus A400M in flight. This demonstrates exactly why we need to protect the defence innovation ecosystem if we are to maintain our technological advantage.   A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with me and visited our stand in the UK Government hub. The conversations, ideas and connections made here are what make events like these so invaluable.

Davie est fier d’annoncer la création de Davie Autonomous, une nouvelle entreprise établie en Ontario. Davie Autonomous se concentrera sur la fabrication et l’intégration de navires de surface sans équipage au Canada, développés par Kraken Technology Group, un chef de file reconnu dans le domaine des technologies maritimes autonomes. Cette initiative s’inscrit dans la continuité du partenariat stratégique annoncé en mai dernier entre Davie et Kraken afin d’établir au Canada la production de ces solutions de pointe, et viendra compléter les activités de Davie en parallèle de la poursuite des travaux au chantier de Lévis. Plusieurs sites en Ontario sont actuellement évalués afin d’y établir un réseau de production dans le cadre d’une stratégie manufacturière pancanadienne. Cette nouvelle entreprise contribuera à créer des emplois hautement qualifiés, à accroitre les capacités industrielles du Canada et à accélérer le développement de technologies maritimes de nouvelle génération. En misant sur les forces de l’Ontario en fabrication avancée, en robotique, en automatisation et en matériaux composites, combinées à l’expertise de Davie en construction navale, en intégration de systèmes et dans le domaine maritime, Davie Autonomous contribuera à renforcer le secteur de la défense. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Davie is proud to announce the creation of Davie Autonomous, a new Ontario-based company. Davie Autonomous will focus on the manufacture and integration of uncrewed surface vessels in Canada, developed by Kraken Technology Group, a recognized leader in autonomous maritime technologies. This initiative builds on the strategic partnership announced by Davie and Kraken in May to establish Canadian production of these leading-edge solutions. It will operate alongside Davie’s existing operations, with work at the Lévis shipyard continuing as planned. Several sites across Ontario are currently being evaluated to establish a production network as part of a Canada-wide manufacturing strategy. The new company will help create highly skilled jobs, strengthen Canada’s industrial capabilities, and accelerate the development of next-generation maritime technologies.
