Huge thanks to Diabetes UK for featuring DESMOND Health Education in their news stories this week 🙏 🤔I urge you to take a read of the article for a sneek peek at some very exciting news about the future of #MYDESMOND...more about that to be shared in the coming months!! 👌🏼 #diabeteseducation #type2diabetes Melanie J Davies DBE Bernie Stribling Kamlesh Khunti Sally Schreder-Boyce Pratik Choudhary Claire Meek Michelle Hadjiconstantinou Christopher Brough Vicki Johnson Tom Yates Leicester Diabetes Centre
We’re celebrating 20 years of the type 2 diabetes education course (DESMOND) and our role in its journey 👏 Known as the 'Diabetes Education Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed' course, DESMOND is a family of national programmes empowering people living with, or at risk of, type 2 to manage their condition. Since the very start, our research backed DESMOND - we funded a clinical trial that led to its national roll-out. Now 20 years later, it's supported 800,000+ people get the knowledge, skills and confidence to live well with type 2 diabetes and we're still funding research to adapt it for people's individual needs, like for those who are younger or pregnant living with the condition. ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/emg_NEMK #Type2Diabetes #DiabetesUK #Research

Successful Installation at the Leicester Diabetes Centre! We are pleased to announce the successful installation of our amino acid analyzer ARACUS IVD at the Leicester Diabetes Centre. The new system will support both comprehensive amino acid profiling and targeted analysis of key amino acids, providing the flexibility needed for a wide range of research applications. It will be used to quantify plasma amino acid concentrations in patient populations, both in the fasted state and in response to nutrient intake. Having previously relied on GC-MS and LC-MS methods, the team is now establishing a dedicated workflow for extended amino acid analysis. With an expected sample volume of 5,000–10,000 samples per year (analyzed in duplicate), this installation represents an important investment in expanding the Centre's analytical infrastructure. The ARAUS IVD is manufactured under an ISO 13485-certified quality management system, ensuring high standards of quality and reliability for in vitro diagnostic applications. We would like to thank the team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre for their trust the collaboration and the warm welcome our colleague Otto Reichwald received during the installation, commissioning and training. We look forward to supporting their research and wish them great success with their new system! 😎

A new paper in DiabeticMedicine, led by Dr Jonathan Goldney, a clinical fellow working under the supervision of Professor Dame Melanie J Davies DBE and in collaboration with colleagues across the Leicester Diabetes Centre, shows how a targeted multidisciplinary clinic can significantly improve outcomes for adults with early-onset type 2 diabetes. The evaluation demonstrates meaningful improvements in HbA1c, blood pressure and weight, alongside better use of evidence-based treatments. “By designing services that are flexible and focused on those at highest risk, we can deliver meaningful improvements in outcomes,” says lead author Dr Jonathan Goldney. This work reflects a true team effort across the Leicester Diabetes Centre and partner organisations, bringing together clinical, research and delivery expertise to design and evaluate a service that works in practice. Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic achievement. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eH6vF-vh #DiabetesResearch #ClinicalInnovation #Type2Diabetes #HealthcareImprovement
