Medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) is a real risk, especially in sweaty, hairy intertriginous areas where frequent dressing changes are needed. To help protect skin integrity, consider: - Favouring non‑adherent or low‑adherent dressings - Using non‑occlusive barrier films - Applying barrier creams and/or medical adhesive remover when adhesives are required - Using HS‑specific dressing retention systems designed for HS anatomy Less trauma at every change can mean better comfort, better concordance and better outcomes for patients. Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that often goes unrecognised, with many patients facing a diagnostic delay of 7–10 years. Early recognition can change that story. Wound care practitioners are frequently among the first specialists to see open, draining HS lesions, yet HS is still commonly misdiagnosed as recurrent abscesses, folliculitis or pilonidal disease. Recognising the pattern is key.
