🛣️ Great news! Works on the A614/A6097 scheme have moved up a gear! We're pleased to say that works are now accelerating at Kirk Hill, marking the official start of the wider A614/A6097 scheme getting underway. If you're travelling through the area, you may see activity in land off East Bridgford Road and archaeological teams are currently on site in the area which will soon become home to the site compound. Main works on the junction will get underway next month and will include a closure of Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road for around 12 months. Kirk Hill is one of five junctions included in the A614/A6097 major road network scheme and improvements will focus on widening the junction to add an extra lane in each direction on the A6097 to increase capacity and reduce journey times. Funding for the A614/A6097 scheme has been secured through a capped £24.3 million contribution from the Department for Transport, an additional £8.3 million from Nottinghamshire County Council, £1.7m from developer contributions and £12.6 million from the East Midlands Combined County Authority. So, what are we actually doing at the junction? Here's what you need to know: ✅ Wider lanes: We'll be widening the junction to add new lanes in each direction which will help to increase capacity and reduce journey times. ↔️ Right turns: We're also going to be widening the right turn lanes onto Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road and add new road markings to make turning right safer and easier. 🚦 New traffic system: A new traffic system will also be installed at the junction to better manage the flow of vehicles. 💡 Street lighting: We will be installing new, upgraded street lighting as part of the junction improvements to increase visibility. 🐎 Crossing: The works will also include upgrades to the bridleway crossing to improve access for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. 📣 Shout out to our amazing youth service! Our youth service have pulled together some amazing stats as part of their annual report for 2025/2026. Some highlights include: ⭐ 14,231 young people engaged in Youth Service activities. ⭐ 18,537 hours of youth provision delivered across Nottinghamshire. ⭐ 86,420 free meals provided to young people through our Youth Work sessions. ⭐ 290 partner agencies worked alongside us to support young people. ⭐ 7,870 project based youth work interventions delivered. ⭐ Thousands of young people supported through key transitions, wellbeing, youth voice and targeted interventions. Young people are at the heart of our youth service, and providing them with safe spaces, trusted youth workers, and valuable support has a huge impact. 💚⌛ There's still time to apply for community funding! Eligible groups in Nottinghamshire have until Friday 24 July to apply for grants to help support work in their communities through the Local Communities Fund. These include: ⭐ Small revenue grants of up to £5,000 ⭐ Capital grants of up to £20,000 ⭐ A one-off foundation grant of up to £1,000 ⭐ Building financial resilience grant of up to £5,000 Zephyr's, a charity which supports local families following pregnancy loss or the death of a baby or child, received a small revenue grant worth £3,500 to support the project Into the Woods. Carly Williams, Founder and CEO, said: "Into The Woods is a monthly forest school event in Tollerton for children who have experienced the death of a sibling, and their families. "We are so grateful for the Local Communities Fund grant which has helped to sustain this important project for 12 months." This time last week, hundreds of young people came together to celebrate a ‘self-care summer’ at the fourth annual NottAlone Live event at YMCA Newark and Sherwood Activity Village. NottAlone Live is an annual event for schools across the city and county, run by NottAlone, that gives young people from Nottingham and Nottinghamshire a chance to spend a day out of the classroom where they can learn important lessons about managing worries, friendships and good mental health, while also taking part in activities that offer creative or physical outlets such as yoga, dance and art. Stallholders from local services and organisations also attend to help young people find out about mental health support available to them and hopefully, feel more knowledgeable and confident about where to go if they need help. Most importantly, the event gives young people a chance to mix with peers from other educational settings, talk about mental health and wellbeing, and feel reassured that whatever they’re going through, they are not alone. This year’s theme, chosen by student ambassadors from Arnold Hill School, was ‘self-care summer’. The ambassadors developed and ran workshops about vision boards and dreamcatchers to a resoundingly positive response from the young attendees. Councillor Rory Green, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, and Councillor Gaynor Mann, Deputy Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health, come along to see the event and meet some of the young people involved. NottAlone is a website with advice, resources and links to free, local support services for all ages.
