People who came to distributed systems from security, from chemistry, from academia, from open-source communities, from places nobody expected. Brought together by a shared belief that technology should serve people - not the other way around. That the next generation of the internet should be built differently, with privacy, verifiability, and human agency as foundations rather than afterthoughts. The work is challenging.   • Most applications that call themselves decentralized store their files on S3 and host their frontends on Vercel. The logic might be on-chain. The infrastructure beneath it is not. IPFS gets closer, but content disappears when nobody is pinning it. That is not a storage layer. It is a temporary cache with extra steps. Levity is Polkadot's decentralized hosting and storage layer, comprising the Bulletin Chain and HOP. Content is addressed by hash, not by server location. Authorized writes. Peer-to-peer reads via IPFS Bitswap. No CDN. No central host decides what stays up. Censorship resistance, verifiability, and permissionlessness are the properties that make Web3 meaningful.   • The Polkadot Products Devnet is live. Devnet is a public environment where developers can build and test against Polkadot's new product stack. The same stack that 900 people used at Web3 Summit is now open to developers globally. Paying, chatting, and proving their humanity without thinking about the blockchain underneath. What a Product looks like A Product is a static web app that runs inside a host. The Polkadot app on mobile, desktop, or the dev-dot.li web gateway. The host provides wallet access, signing, storage, and chain access. The app is published as a bundle and addressed through a .dot domain. The developer loop Build a web app with the Product SDK Produce a static build Register a .dot name with DotNS Publish the bundle with pad Deploy PolkaVM contracts with cdm if needed Test in the Polkadot app or web gateway This is still a Devnet Tokens have no real value. Chains and services may reset. Flows will change between builds. That is exactly why it exists. Developers can test the product stack before production.   • The most important thing that happened at Playground . dot during Web3 Summit 2026 did not show up in the numbers. 190 builders deployed apps. 272 .dot domains published. 22,820 XP earned. Those are the metrics worth celebrating. But the result that mattered most was quieter than any of them. Nobody asked how to fund a wallet. Nobody worried about gas. Nobody had to think about the storage layer, the identity chain, or the consensus mechanism running underneath everything they built. They just opened the tool and built something. For developers evaluating new infrastructure, that distinction matters more than throughput numbers or benchmark comparisons. The measure of a developer platform is not what it can do in theory. It is how much of itself it hides when someone sits down to use it. Levity handled decentralized storage. HUMANITY handled identity. The Product SDK handled provisioning. The deploy pipeline handled everything from Bulletin upload to live .dot domain in a single command. None of that required a decision from the person building.   • For a decade, the conversation in Web3 centered on infrastructure. Throughput. Consensus mechanisms. Bridges. Tokenomics. Scaling. These were important engineering challenges, but they were never the destination. At Web3 Summit 2026, the conversation shifted beyond infrastructure. Trinity. Playground. HUMANITY. Bulletin Chain (Levity). Taken individually, each solves a different problem. Taken together, they describe a common direction: technology that quietly serves people rather than demanding their attention. That means developers who spend less time wrestling with complexity and more time building. Users who never have to think about cryptography. Infrastructure that disappears into the background the same way browsers abstracted away HTTP, TLS, and DNS, and most people never needed to know those protocols existed. Yanis Varoufakis spoke at Web3 Summit 2026 on algorithmic capital: machinery that does not create commodities but creates the power to extract rent by commodifying behavior. The Web3 Foundation's research highlighted the mechanism: personal data is no longer used only to target adverts. It trains models, improves recommendations, powers enterprise systems, and generates new forms of machine intelligence. The more AI develops, the more valuable human-origin data becomes. The systems organizations build on and the assumptions baked into those systems determine what gets extracted, who benefits, and who pays. The infrastructure layer sets the terms. What it assumes about data ownership, control, and extraction is not a detail. It is the architecture. Infrastructure determines outcomes. It always has.

  • Friction remains one of the most persistent barriers to developer adoption in Web3. Local environment setup. Faucets. Token acquisition. Unfamiliar tooling. For most developers evaluating a new stack, the cost of getting started outweighs the perceived benefit of trying. At Web3 Summit 2026, we tested a different premise. Start from working open-source code. Modify it with AI-assisted tooling. Publish to a decentralized stack in under 30 minutes. No local setup. No faucets. No token acquisition. 190 people deployed a decentralized app over two days. Most had never built on Polkadot before. Between them they published 272 .dot domains, earned 22,820 XP, gave each other 469 stars, and forked 49 apps from one another's code. That happened at a conference where most attendees did not come to build. The infrastructure underneath - Bulletin, Statement Store, the Product SDK - quietly handled the complexity. Developers only focused on the application layer as they should. This is what the infrastructure looks like when it works. Lower the barrier enough and builders show up.

  • When compliance, engineering, product, marketing, ops, and comms come together, we can move mountains. Three and a half months. An event that normally takes a dedicated team the better part of a year. We pulled it off. Most of what made Web3 Summit a success was invisible by design. Working closely with PCF and the Web3 Foundation, the team moved quietly and at speed. The experience held together on the surface because people made it hold together behind it. Turnout more than doubled. Attendees were genuinely engaged in the sessions, the art installations, and the performances. Attention landed on values, usability, and real-world impact. Everyone stepped well beyond their usual brief. Builders, developers, journalists, and first-time attendees all left with something real. When this team decides to do something, it gets done.
