As the UK gets a brief reprieve from another summer heatwave, the new government begins its work against a backdrop of mounting climate and nature challenges. It is time for Government to sit up and take note. Tackling the nature crisis is not just an environmental problem, it is an economic problem, a social problem, a national security problem. For too long nature has not been a priority, but investing in nature now is investing in all our futures. Heatwaves are killing thousands. Can you deliver an accessible, inclusive and engaging logo design for a new citizen science project? There is a prize of £1,500 for the winning design and the deadline for entries is midnight on Sunday 9 August 2026. The logo is for Bird Atlas 2027–31, fieldwork for which kicks off in 2027. Bird Atlas 2027–31 will provide complete and unrivalled information from every part of Britain and Ireland, telling us which birds are where and how they are doing in both winter and the breeding season. This new Atlas will inspire, engage and motivate people to play their part in the response to the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity collapse. It will also provide the motivation and support that people need to get out into nature, something that is especially important for those who currently face barriers to accessing the natural world and science. The logo design is a central part of the Atlas brand and will play an important role in making this an accessible, engaging and inclusive project.
