We make good food joyful, accessible and affordable for everyone, every day.

About us

Over 150 years old and still going strong, we’re the UK’s second-biggest retailer. Every day, the nation shops with us because they know they’ll get affordable, good food and excellent service. We focus on great value and convenient shopping across our family of brands, from Argos, Nectar and Habitat to Sainsbury’s Bank, Smart Charge and Tu. What’s next for Sainsbury’s? We've put food back at the heart of our business and we’re taking Sainsbury’s to the next level. We’re investing in technology and people and we’re thinking bigger about how we attract and connect with our customers, while doing everything we can to create a more resilient UK food system.

  • To mark South Asian Heritage Month, our I AM ME colleague network brought us together under this year’s theme, ‘Unity in Diversity’, with a clear focus on turning cultural awareness into meaningful learning, strategic insight, and actionable inclusion. We were joined by six supplier partners who shared not only their products, but the rich heritage, values, and market insights behind their brands. These exchanges offered valuable perspectives on supplier inclusion and authentic business collaboration. A standout highlight was an honest, thought-provoking conversation with Tara Chandra, founder of Here We Flo. Tara shared candid insights into navigating entrepreneurship as a female founder, sparking meaningful discussion on identity, breaking down barriers, and actively building spaces where everyone belongs. Interactive cultural activities, live henna art and an energising Bollywood dance workshop offered hands-on opportunities to experience and learn more about South Asian heritage firsthand. Events like this prove the true power of colleague networks — not just in bringing people together, but in challenging mindsets, driving cross-business connection, and turning inclusion from a value on paper into a real driver of impact. Thank you to all our colleagues, supplier partners, and Tara for making the day so valuable. #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #UnityInDiversity #Sainsburys

Great-quality, affordable food starts with the farmers who grow and produce it, and the natural environment that supports them. From healthy soils and clean water to pollinators and biodiversity, nature plays a vital role in helping bring food from farms to our customers’ plates. Through 21 years of partnership with The Woodland Trust, we've planted more than 5.4 million trees. Now, with a renewed four-year commitment focused on agroforestry, we're helping to show how trees on farms can help farmers grow the food we rely on every day - helping to improve soil health, manage water, support wildlife and protect farms and animals from the impacts of extreme weather. 🌲 Sainsbury’s customers continue to support Woodland Trust projects with 1p from every dozen Woodland free-range eggs alongside other Woodland range products including free range chicken, turkey, Best of British apples, bags for life and a range of greetings cards supporting The Woodland Trust. It’s a great example of how good food in partnership can bring together farmers, customers, businesses and charities like The Woodland Trust to help build a more resilient food system for the future. ⛅ Watch the video to hear directly from the people making it happen. 👇 #community #partnership #sainsburys

As extreme weather becomes more frequent, trees are helping farmers build resilience where it matters most. Integrating trees into farms through agroforestry protects soils, shelters crops and livestock, and supports more sustainable food production in a changing climate 🌳 That’s why we’re growing our partnership with Sainsbury's to help build a more sustainable, resilient food system 🍏 With a renewed focus on agroforestry through to 2030, we’re working together to help farmers cope with more extreme weather events, alongside supporting nature’s recovery to create a greener, healthier future for all of us 🌱 We recently visited three farms to learn why they had embraced agroforestry and what benefits they'd seen. • For the first time, we’ll be selling British-grown cucumbers through winter, helping extend British salad production beyond its traditional growing season. As extreme weather and global disruption create new challenges for fresh produce growers, our two new 10-year agreements with British salad suppliers Thanet Earth and Evesham Vale Growers will help increase the volume of home-grown cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers on our shelves. With Thanet Earth, this includes investing in the innovation needed to grow more British cucumbers and peppers, including winter cucumbers grown in the UK through the darkest months of the year using carefully managed light and heat. And with Evesham Vale Growers, we’re helping increase year-round supplies of British-grown tomatoes, strengthening our supply chains and supporting British growers for the future. Hear from Robert James at Thanet Earth on what this means for British growing and bringing more British produce to customers year-round. #Sainsburys #BritishFarming

  • What a weekend! The sun well and truly showed up for Leeds Pride yesterday, and so did our amazing Sainsbury's and Argos colleagues. We loved being back to sponsor the event for the 11th year running. It’s always a brilliant highlight to bring our teams together, show our support for the LGBTQ+ community and just soak up the fantastic atmosphere. We also debuted our shiny new Pride-branded lorry, which looked brilliant making its way through the city centre. A huge thank you to everyone who marched with us, cheered from the pavements and helped make it such an unforgettable day out. #Sainsburys #Argos #LeedsPride #ProudAtSainsburys

  • We believe good food should be joyful, accessible and affordable for everyone, every day. That’s why, this week, we've signed the Good Food Bill, supporting calls for industry and government to work together to build a more resilient food system and help ensure everyone can access good, nutritious food. We've made real progress towards a food system that benefits everyone, from partnering with farmers to deliver more British produce to our customers, to investing £8m with Comic Relief in programmes that provide children with good, nutritious food during the school holidays. But we believe that lasting change will only happen if businesses, government, farmers, charities and communities work together, which is why Sainsbury's is proud to be calling for action on one of the most important challenges facing the UK today. Huge news! 🎉 Our I AM ME network has been shortlisted for the Ethnicity Awards 2026. This celebration is a collective effort by our incredible colleagues, network volunteers, allies, sponsors, and the wider business community. Together, we are striving to create a culture where everyone feels they can belong, be themselves, and thrive. Over the last year, this shared dedication has helped us: Build the confidence of ethnically diverse colleagues through development, celebrate cultures, and connect colleagues across the UK. Deliver a broad programme of activity focused on cultural awareness, allyship, belonging, and inclusion, including Race Equality Week, Black History Month, and South Asian Heritage Month. Influence longer-term change through contributions to Let's Talk About Race, support for the Halo Code, and partnerships that help develop ethnically diverse talent. While we are incredibly proud of this milestone, we’re even more excited about the work still ahead as we continue to drive representation, progression, and belonging across Sainsbury’s. Thank you to everyone who plays a part in making I AM ME. See the full shortlist here: https://lnkd.in/eANRBirH #IAmMe #EthnicityAwards #LifeAtSainsburys
