We welcomed honorary consuls representing Germany, Spain, Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova to Urenco’s Capenhurst site on 24 July. As representatives who help promote economic, cultural, and educational ties between their home countries and the UK, honorary consuls play an important role in strengthening international relationships and fostering greater understanding between nations. The visit therefore provided an excellent opportunity to showcase Capenhurst’s contribution to UK energy security and global nuclear fuel supply chains. Attendees also learned more about Urenco’s continued investments at the site, including advanced nuclear fuel capabilities that will support future energy security and the deployment of next-generation nuclear technologies. These investments reinforce Capenhurst’s position as a strategic UK asset and an increasingly important contributor to international efforts to deliver secure, reliable, and low-carbon energy supplies. As countries around the world seek to strengthen energy resilience and diversify critical fuel supply chains, international cooperation and trusted partnerships have never been more important. One-off political announcements and investment decisions won't deliver a nuclear revival. That's a key takeaway from a new CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) report on the future of nuclear energy in Europe. The report concludes that durable, long-term political commitment, regulatory predictability and clear financing frameworks will be essential to turning ambition into deployment. As Sarah Forman, Urenco's Head of Strategy & Corporate Development, has said: "There's a really big opportunity for governments to send a powerful signal that gives the certainty for that investment... standing up and saying very clearly that nuclear is going to be part of our energy mix for a very long time." There'll be a new kid on the block come 2031. And this is how it'll look. The Advanced Fuels Facility at our UK site, Urenco Capenhurst, will produce high-assay, low enriched uranium (HALEU), and will be the first in the western world to do so at commercial scale. These new, rendered images, provide a more detailed impression of the facility which will serve global customers and power advanced and small modular reactor designs. With an output of up to 27 tonnes of HALEU fuel per year, and the potential to double this, we're a little-bit proud to be at the forefront of this transformation in #nuclear.
