STAY SAFE ’26: ANYONE CAN DROWN; NO ONE SHOULD. Share Vital Water Safety Messages Over Holiday Period. Anyone can drown; no one should. With an unprecedented 19 drownings over the Whitsun half term period, the need to act and share key water safety messages is vital. As the school summer holidays commence and in partnership with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), Canal & River Trust and RoSPA, MPA requests that the industry helps to raise awareness by sharing water safety videos with employees and external networks. Newly updated with the latest key water safety messages, the videos have been timed to coincide with World Drowning Prevention Day on the Saturday 25th July, however the intention is that they are available throughout the school holidays or any period of particularly warm weather. The videos help raise awareness of the potential hazards associated with inland water and explain what to do if either you find yourself in trouble in water or see someone else in difficulty.  The three short videos are very similar and only differ in their length or the number of subjects covered. The longest, at 1 minute and 26 seconds, covers three key subjects, the dangers of swimming in inland water such as quarry lakes, ’Float to Live’ and ‘Phone, Float, Throw’. The other two shorter videos focus on ’Float to Live’ and ‘Phone, Float, Throw’. #MENTALHEALTH SURVEY - Last Chance to Complete the Mental Health Survey - Closes 15 July 2026! Complete the Survey Here: https://lnkd.in/gpvF74eJ This is a final reminder for all producer and associate members to complete an important survey on mental health that will help shape MPA’s activity moving forward. The closing date for survey completion is Wednesday 15th July 2026. Mental health remains a significant issue, with one in five adults living with a common mental health problem (Centre for Mental Health, 2025). From a workplace perspective, poor mental health costs employers £51bn per year (Deloitte, 2022 & 2023). These costs include absence, with work-related stress, anxiety and depression estimated to account for 49% of all absence. However, the majority of the cost is owing to presenteeism, where employees attend work despite illness and underperform. This is a particular concern from an industry perspective in terms of incident and accident rates, which may be partly or fully attributable to poor mental health, lack of focus, or reduced concentration. In response, MPA has designed a survey with Mates in Mind, aimed at gathering data to assess the current maturity of the industry in relation to mental health. We invite participation from all producer and associate members in this important survey. The more responses we receive, the better picture we will have of where we are as a sector and what we need to do to progress. One of the most memorable moments from Tim Marsh's keynote at this year's MPA Health & Safety Conference was this short video that stopped the room. It wasn't about regulation, statistics or procedures. It was a simple reminder of why we do what we do. The video is simple but powerful, it points out that the top reason for safety isn’t tied to job performance or productivity, infact it isn't work at all but rather something beyond the workplace— personal well-being and loved one's matter more. That's why it resonated so strongly with our audience. Since the event, a number of delegates have asked us to share it, so here it is! Tuesday 7 July 2026, 30 Euston Square, London Radio and television presenter mike bushell opened the day, themed ‘Behavioural Safety from Human Factor to Accountability’, with a film featuring himself and MPA Chair Lex Russell at Doveholes Quarry. Together, they explored how leadership, culture and individual behaviour influence everyday safety. The morning continued with thought-provoking presentations from behavioural safety expert Professor Tim Marsh and leading UK health and safety lawyer Paul Verrico. A lively panel discussion then examined the theme in practice, from theory to its application in quarries and other operational sites. This afternoon, we celebrate the 2026 MPA Health & Safety Awards, recognising outstanding innovation and best practice across the industry. This year’s awards feature 113 entries from 32 companies across seven topics, including ‘The Fatal 6’, Eurobitume, the new Outstanding Contractor Award, Individual and Young Leader awards, and the prestigious John Crabbe and Sir Frank Davies Awards.
