Livia Giacardi

Livia Giacardi graduated in Mathematics at the University of Turin in 1974 and specialized in History of Mathematics with Tullio Viola (Turin) and with René Taton (Paris - Center Alexandre Koyré). Since 2003 she has been full professor at the University of Turin. She is the author of over 200 essays, critical editions, books and websites on the history of mathematics, with particular attention to the scientific traditions of Turin and Piedmont, to the contributions of the Italian School of Algebraic Geometry (http://www.corradosegre.unito.it), the history of mathematics teaching and of scientific institutions. She has been invited lecturer in about 200 conferences and seminars in Italy and abroad (among these: Basel, Helsinki, Toulouse, Braga, Tel Aviv, Madrid, Louvain, Copenhagen, Prague, Paris, Monterrey, Lille, Vienna, Caen, Lisbon, Oberwolfach, Wuppertal, Xi'an). She was invited professor at the Bar-Hillel Colloquium for the History, Philosophy and Sociology of Science at the University of Tel Aviv in April 1998) and visiting professor at the University of Lille 1 (UFR de Mathématiques-Laboratoire Paul Painlevé) in March 2010. She was Secretary of the Italian Society of the History of Mathematics (2000-2008) and member of the Board of Directors (2000-2017); member of the Scientific Commission of the Italian Mathematical Union (2003-2006, 2009-2015). From 2003 to 2012 she was a member of the Italian Commission for the teaching of mathematics (CIIM); since 2016 he has been a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin and since 2019 of the International Academy of the History of Science. He was a member of the INDAM committee for the history of mathematics (2014). He has organized national and international congresses and exhibitions. Terracini 50 years after his death”, Turin 2018.
