The Welsh Ministers, as traffic authority for the relevant lengths of the A483 and A458 trunk roads, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by sections 82(2) and 83(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), make this Order.
The Welsh Ministers have given public notice of their intention to make this Order in accordance with section 83(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
1. The title of this Order is the A483 & A458 Trunk Roads (Welshpool, Powys) (Derestriction) Order 2026 and it comes into force on 11 May 2026.
2. In this Order—
“the trunk roads” means the A483 Swansea to Manchester trunk road and the A458 Shrewsbury to Dolgellau trunk road.
3. The lengths of the trunk roads specified in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be restricted roads for the purposes of section 81 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The length of the A483 trunk road that extends from a point 168 metres south-west of the north-eastern edge of the splitter island on the south-western side of Sarn-y-bryn-caled Roundabout, Welshpool to a point 166 metres north-east of the south-western edge of the splitter island on the north-eastern side of that roundabout.
The circulatory carriageway of the A483/A458 Sarn-y-bryn-caled Roundabout, Welshpool.
The length of the A458 trunk road that extends north for a distance of 199 metres from the southern edge of the splitter island on the northern side of Sarn-y-bryn-caled Roundabout, Welshpool.
The length of the A483 trunk road that extends from a point 93 metres south of the northern edge of the splitter island on the southern side of Buttington Cross Roundabout, north of Welshpool to a point 86 metres north of the southern edge of the splitter island on the northern side of that roundabout.
The circulatory carriageway of the A483 Buttington Cross Roundabout, north of Welshpool.
The length of the A458 trunk road that extends from the eastern edge of the splitter island on the north-eastern side of Buttington Cross Roundabout, north of Welshpool for a distance of 40 metres.
1984 c. 27; sections 82(2) and 83(1) were amended by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (c. 22), section 168 and Schedule 8, paragraphs 59(3) and 60(2). By virtue of S.I. 1999/672, and section 162 of, and paragraph 30 of Schedule 11 to, the Government of Wales Act 2006 (c. 32), these functions are now exercisable by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales.
