Yesterday, the Southwest Airlines special livery “Independence One” came through Albuquerque International Sunport during daylight hours. She’s absolutely striking in person!

There are true legends that have walked our Great Hall and we are honored and in awe everyday. Thanks for sharing this powerful story, Philip.
I had the pleasure of meeting retired Maj. James “Jim” Stark at the Albuquerque International Sunport this morning. Jim recently turned a young 102 and is headed to Normandy for the commemoration ceremonies for the third time. Jim served our country as an Army Air Corps fighter pilot in World War II and was also a prisoner of war. Meeting him felt like traveling back in time. I cannot begin to understand all he has seen and experienced in his lifetime, but he was sharp, energetic, and a true gentleman. Beyond visiting with our incredible New Mexico clients, meeting Jim made a long week more than worth it.

The Sunport just powered up its first EV fast chargers at “The Holding Pattern” cellphone lot. The new Level 3 chargers can power most EVs from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes. It’s the first step in a broader EV expansion across Sunport properties. *Also, don’t park and wait on Sunport Blvd. Come wait here! ☺️👏🏼 #ABQSunport #InfrastructureWeek #EVCharging #FlyAbq

GoJet Airlines is hosting an on-site recruiting day at Del Sol Aviation on July 15th. Their recruiting team will be at the Albuquerque International Sunport for the day, meeting with pilots one on one. For anyone weighing their next career move, this is the kind of access that is hard to come by outside of the major recruiting conventions, and without the cost or the crowd. Topics on the table include pathways into the right seat, hiring timelines, training, base options, and more. Whether you are a CFI building hours toward your ATP, a pilot already at minimums, or someone exploring the airlines, walking in for a conversation will tell you more in twenty minutes than weeks of online research. This event is open to all pilots, not just Del Sol students! #PilotRecruiting #AviationCareers #RegionalAirlines #GoJetAirlines #PilotJobs

We are so proud of this program! And, we are ecstatic that other airports around the country are also interested in shifting toward showcasing more small businesses that represent the local community. Bravo! 👏
As a follow-up to my previous post, check out this video about the Ascend ABQ program that local filmmakers INSPIRADO and I produced. Albuquerque International Sunport

Continuing to always make us so proud. Thanks for all you do here, Jonathan, for all of us. Go, Team Sunport! 👏
It was an honor to present at the Airports Council International - North America / AAAE Airport Customer Experience Symposium in San Jose, CA. I spoke about how the Albuquerque International Sunport partnered with our community to redevelop our concessions program, with an emphasis on heavily showcasing our local flavor and businesses. In particular, I discussed our new small business program, Ascend ABQ. We engaged with and collaborated with a diverse variety of small business stakeholders throughout our community to create this program. It is designed to give small, minority-owned and disadvantaged businesses the opportunity to setup shop in the Sunport without the financial investments typically associated with a full brick and mortar unit. We recruited local businesses, provided extensive training on operating in an airport and set them up with custom kiosks with lower rent and operating costs. The results of this two-year journey have been incredibly gratifying. We’re providing an authentic local experience for our passengers and opportunities for small businesses that otherwise wouldn’t be able to operate in an airport. The best part; three of the nine businesses in the first Ascend class have secured national wholesale contracts with one of the largest concessions operators in the game, jumpstarting their growth in the industry. Stay tuned for a video about this program… Photo credit for last two shots: Matt Oberer
