A few photos from Shopify DotDev, where our VP of Product, Senior Manager of Partnerships, and one of our engineers spent two days talking with developers and partners about the future of enterprise commerce. Sessions on agentic checkouts, dynamic discounts with Shopify Functions, and building shopping into any surface with Catalog and UCP reinforced a theme we’re thinking about at Extole: as commerce becomes more agentic, merchants need a trusted way to create, govern, and execute personalized offers at scale. We’re excited about what becomes possible when Shopify’s commerce infrastructure meets enterprise offer management—and grateful for all the conversations in Toronto.

The best Shopify referral programs don't succeed because they offer discounts. They succeed because they're thoughtfully engineered, from personalized incentives and audience segmentation to strategic placement and continuous optimization. As we're meeting with Shopify developers at Shopify.dev this week, one thing keeps coming up: great referral experiences require great developer tools. That's why we've built APIs, MCP, CLI, AI-ready workflows, and flexible integrations that let engineering teams create, test, and optimize referral and offer experiences without sacrificing speed or control. If you're building for growth on Shopify, here are a few patterns we see across the highest-performing programs. ↓

Developers are building with AI. Marketing teams are adopting AI. Customer incentives should be AI-ready too. If you're at DotDev this week, stop by and chat with the Extole team about building intelligent offer experiences for Shopify merchants. cc: Ana Suro & Kevin Zeisel

AI is transforming loyalty. Are you reaping the benefits? The traditional fixed-point value loyalty model is familiar, but it is also expensive. It assumes every customer needs the same incentive at the same time, even though behavior, intent, and churn risk vary widely. AI finally offers a better approach. By analyzing transaction history, engagement patterns, and redemption behavior in real time, teams can adjust reward value, reward type, and timing by segment. Marketers now have a precise growth lever at their disposal, and the upside is meaningful. McKinsey reports that companies excelling at personalization generate 40% more revenue from those activities than average performers. Loyalty gains compound when promotional spend moves toward the offers most likely to convert. Want to see what that looks like? A QR code referral program only works if three things are true: the advocate is identifiable, the scan is attributable, and the reward flow is automated. That’s why QR referrals are an orchestration solution, not just a clever creative tactic. The flow is simple: 1. An advocate enrolls. 2. The platform generates a unique dynamic QR code tied to that advocate. 3. A friend scans and lands on the referral offer. 4. A qualifying event happens. 5. Rewards trigger automatically for both parties. From there, the real work is operational: real-time event tracking, fraud controls like eligibility rules and device fingerprinting, and integrations with CRM, CDP, and commerce systems so referral data doesn’t live in a silo. And if you’re supporting field teams, wallet access and mobile app distribution are critical to power referral capture in the moment, not after login. If your offline referrals can’t be tracked at that level, are they really part of your acquisition model? More in the comments 👇

The art of marketing to Gen Z is simple—literally. Simplicity is key when it comes to building referral experiences that young, digital-native consumers want to share. It boils down to 4 core principles: 1. Make it easy for customers to share their referral link across multiple channels 2. Offer rewards they'll actually want, not confusing points systems 3. Promote referrals where Gen Z already lives—social and SMS 4. Make it fun! Think gamification, tiered rewards, and flexible redemption Don't overthink it; Gen Z is all about easy, flexible, and authentic. Embrace those principles and your brand will feel like a natural fit for young consumers. Read more about marketing to Gen Z here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eUbtWBUN

Price wars are expensive. Trust scales better. 77% of consumers feel no loyalty to their telecom provider. Instead of focusing on this gap, many carriers still trying to buy growth the hard way. The smarter move: Create experiences that engage and delight subscribers, turning them into loyal, lifelong customers. Think bigger than a basic refer-a-friend widget: Engage subscribers with segmented offers, tiered rewards, in-app referral touchpoints, and field-team referral capture. Telecom winners in 2026 won’t outspend the market. They’ll build systems that let them win on loyalty. Want to see what that infrastructure looks like? Credit union loyalty remains paramount in 2026—but it needs an upgrade. Credit unions are under real pressure to reduce churn: 55% lost members over the past year, and 59% of members still hold checking accounts elsewhere. CUs need to be doing more to deliver value to customers while also securing their long-term loyalty. A modern credit union loyalty program must reinforce both primary financial institution behaviors and the cooperative mission simultaneously. That’s why the most compelling programs are expanding beyond debit activity and referrals to reward actions like setting up direct deposit, using budgeting tools, attending financial education sessions, or building emergency savings. Those behaviors create healthier members and deeper relationships. Need more advice on building out a member loyalty strategy? Head to the link in the comments for our top tips. ⬇️
