Community shows up — and this past weekend, it showed up in a big way. Our Columbus, Nebraska, branch was proud to serve as one of three corporate sponsors for the Bob Lauterbach Memorial Downtown Runaround, a two-day event welcoming more than 700 participants of all ages and abilities. On Friday, our team supported the 32nd Annual Junior Runaround, a 1-mile fun run for children, handing out toys to young finishers. On Saturday, we cheered on runners in the 2.1-mile and 5-mile races from the finish line, offering fresh fruit and encouragement. The event honors Robert "Bob" Lauterbach — a teacher, coach, and former Executive Director of the Columbus YMCA who dedicated his life to helping local kids grow and thrive. A Columbus tradition since 1986, the Runaround's proceeds support local community efforts. We're proud to award a $25,000 Believe in Local grant to Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance through our partnership with the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation. Founded in 2010, the East Chapter of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance brings the resources of the nation's largest statewide mountain bike association to the trails that matter most to riders in Eastern Washington. Through partnerships with landowners, land managers, and local businesses, volunteers dedicate countless hours to maintaining and improving trail systems at Mica Peak, Beacon Hill, Camp Sekani, the Saltese Uplands, and other outdoor destinations throughout the region. The organization's impact extends well beyond trail maintenance. Evergreen hosts skills clinics for riders of all experience levels, group rides that build community, women's-only trail days, and advocacy efforts that help preserve access to public lands for future generations. At its core is a simple belief: outdoor recreation strengthens communities, creates connections, and encourages healthy, active lifestyles. Sometimes the smallest gestures leave the biggest impressions. Volunteers from our Billings, MT, Client Contact Center recently spent time at Skyline Heights Nursing & Rehabilitation, helping with a wheelchair "Car Wash" for residents. The afternoon was filled with fresh-shined wheelchairs, good conversation, shared laughs, and snow cones all around. Skyline Heights provides skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and long-term care in a compassionate environment where residents are treated like family. Through camps and training programs, Rise Above helps young people build healthy habits and life skills that extend far beyond athletics. Participants learn the fundamentals of nutrition, physical fitness, stretching, strength, and agility while developing integrity, teamwork, leadership, perseverance, and conflict resolution skills. For more than 60 years, the Creston Fire Department has answered the call whenever its neighbors needed help, responding to fires, medical emergencies, and disasters with a team made up entirely of volunteers. The department's ability to serve future generations depends not only on dedicated people, but also on having a facility that can safely support emergency operations, equipment storage, training, and growing service demands. The Creston Fire Fighter's Association, the nonprofit fundraising arm of the department, is helping lead the effort to build a replacement fire station. The new facility will serve as the foundation for the department's next generation of service, ensuring volunteers have the tools, space, and infrastructure necessary to continue protecting local families, farms, and businesses. We're proud to award a $25,000 Believe in Local grant to Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity through our partnership with the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation. Since 1986, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity has put into action the belief that everyone deserves a decent, safe, and affordable place to live. In 2025, the organization served 745 households across Polk, Dallas, and Jasper counties, creating 43 affordable homeownership opportunities, completing 186 critical home repairs and modifications, and helping 516 households clarify their path to homeownership through counseling and education. Through its homeownership program, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity partners with families earning between 30% and 80% of area median income. Participants invest hundreds of partnership hours alongside volunteers while completing homeowner and financial education before purchasing their homes with affordable, low-interest mortgages. In neighborhoods across Greater Des Moines, where more than 10,000 low-income families are struggling with housing costs and one in four homes requires repairs to remain safe, the need for affordable housing solutions continues to grow.
