Honoring a WW2 🇺🇲 Texan veteran on #BastilleDay in Houston! I was delighted and honored to welcome over a hundred guests to the consular residence for the traditional 🇨🇵 Bastille Day reception. The ceremony was dedicated to 250 years of friendship between 🇨🇵 and 🇺🇲 (and featured for the occasion an exhibition of the authentic musket that once belonged to Lafayette). On this occasion, I had the immense honor of awarding the Legion of Honor to Henry Kolinek, a Texan veteran, aerial gunner, of the 1944 Battle of Normandy. Just as we paid tribute to a 🇨🇵 man, Lafayette, who helped 🇺🇲 win its independence 250 years ago, we honored an 🇺🇲 citizen who helped liberate 🇨🇵 82 years ago. Notre délégué Steven Jast a eu l’honneur d’assister à la célébration de la fête nationale de France, organisée par le Consulat Général de France. Un moment fort, marqué par la remise de la Légion d’honneur au vétéran de la seconde guerre mondiale Henry Kolinek dont l’engagement et le courage forcent l’admiration. A historic moment for our community. We are deeply honored that Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo officially proclaimed July 14, 2026, as Bastille Day in Harris County. We extend our sincere thanks to Jeff Syptak, Director of Special Projects, for representing Judge Hidalgo at the ceremony and presenting the proclamation on her behalf. This proclamation recognizes the enduring ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity, celebrates the 250th anniversary of the historic friendship between France and the United States, and acknowledges the invaluable contributions of Houston's French and Francophone community. It also honors the Alliance Française de Houston and the Consulate General of France in Houston for their continued commitment to promoting French language, culture, education, and international understanding. Receiving this proclamation made this year's Bastille Day celebration even more meaningful. This past Saturday, the Alliance Française de Houston proudly co-hosted Houston's largest Bastille Day celebration, bringing together thousands of guests for a joyful day of French culture, music, cuisine, art, family activities, and community. It was a beautiful reminder that culture has the power to bring people together and create lasting connections. To everyone who attended, thank you for celebrating with us. Immense déception après la défaite de l'équipe de 🇨🇵 en demi-finale de la Coupe du monde à Dallas après un parcours sans faute qui nous a tous fait rêver. Félicitations à La Roja 🇪🇦 pour sa force, sa maitrise du jeu et sa qualification en finale. Fier d'avoir pu représenter la 🇨🇵 à Dallas, félicitations aux organisateurs de la FIFA, hommage à l'hospitalité et l'énergie légendaires du Texas ressenties dans tout le stade. C'est ce que je retiendrai de ce 14 juillet, jour de notre fête nationale.
