We are excited to announce the completion of our new Moody battery energy storage facility paired with solar! 🥳 Recently, Georgia Power leaders joined state and local elected officials, as well as community leaders, to celebrate the completion of one of our first battery energy storage systems 🔋(BESS) connected to solar. ☀️ The Moody Battery Facility, located just outside of Valdosta, Ga., is capable of 49.5 MW of battery storage, which can be deployed back to the grid over a four-hour period. This flexible energy storage system matches the output of the nearby Moody solar facility and adds resiliency to the state’s power grid. The event spotlighted not only the importance of the project but also the lasting economic impact and benefits it will bring to Lowndes County. “The successful completion of the Moody Battery Energy Storage System, ahead of schedule, is great news for our customers and for reliable energy in our state,” said Rick Anderson, senior vice president and senior production officer for Georgia Power. As Georgia continues to grow and attract new investments and jobs, we continue to work to ensure that growth benefits all Georgia Power customers. We’re excited to announce that Georgia Power will serve the new OpenAI project in Effingham County, which is expected to to create thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars in new investment for the local community. OpenAI will pay the full infrastructure and electric service costs to serve its facility and will fulfill requirements for long-term energy contracts and include financial assurances designed to protect Georgia Power customers. In addition, OpenAI, which is expected to need approximately 3,200 megawatts (MW) of power for its new facility, has agreed to provide up to 1,000 MW of flexible demand response where it will reduce its power use in times of high demand, meaningfully supporting reliability across Georgia Power’s system. “We appreciate the leadership and thoughtfulness of the OpenAI team as they prepare to bring significant investment and cutting-edge technology to Georgia,” said Aaron Mitchell, senior vice president of Strategic Growth for Georgia Power. “At Georgia Power, we are working every day to help ensure that growth from data centers and other large-energy users brings value for our customers through higher reliability and lower prices. Companies like OpenAI are making real commitments when it comes to responsible operation and development and demonstrating the benefits that these facilities can bring to Georgia communities. We’re excited to work with OpenAI, Effingham County and local partners on this significant project.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gDjnw2UK

In partnership with Georgia Power Company, our She LEADS Women's Empowerment Program participants recently engaged in a day of impactful wellness programming focused on prioritizing and investing in mental, physical and financial well-being. Our own Amanda Battle, Senior Manager of Belonging & Internal Communications, moderated an insightful conversation with Kensa Gunter, PsyD, CMPC, Psychologist and Director of NBA & WNBA Mind Health, DeVonté Johnson, Co-founder and Owner of Eastside Dental Group and Maddie Gray, Founder of Atlanta Swim Week and member of the Atlanta Hawks Creators Collective. Together, they discussed the importance of proactively investing in individual wellness, building sustainable habits and leading from a place of wholeness. She Leaders also participated in a financial wellness workshop led by Shina C., our Vice President, Controller and She LEADS alumna. Through this workshop, attendees gained practical knowledge to build and lead from a wealth mindset, make confident financial decisions and build effective budgets that drive organizational growth. Wellness is more than self-care; it's a core pillar of effective leadership that drives performance and transforms the environments around us. Thank you to Georgia Power Company for hosting us and to our incredible speakers for sharing their experiences and inspiring our participants to lead with intention and confidence. Turns out our troublemen are pretty good at story time, too. 📚⚡😄 Brunswick Troubleman Matt recently visited Satilla Marsh Elementary after his daughter, Laurel, was named Student of the Week. Matt shared about his career at Georgia Power and read to the class — creating a special memory for students, teachers and one very proud daughter. 💙 Serving communities doesn’t stop when the workday does. It’s what our people do every day. 👏

👷♂️ Not everyone in a hard hat and safety vest is a lineman—sometimes they’re our engineers! ⚙️ While engineering can happen behind a desk, our engineers also spend plenty of time in the field. 💪 From storm response and damage assessments to supporting repairs and seeing their designs come to life, they play a critical role in keeping your power reliable. ⚡💡 It’s engineering in action and it happens well beyond the office walls. 🏗️

With new residents moving to the state and large-energy users like data centers and manufacturers choosing Georgia, we continue to work to ensure that growth benefits all of our customers. Today, we are reaffirming our commitment to serving the interests, the communities, and the priorities of our 2.8 million customers while continuing to support Georgia’s growth. “We know that, in many parts of the country, rapid growth and increasing demand for electricity is creating higher electric rates and lower reliability – that is not happening in Georgia,” said Kim Greene, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power. “Our Pledge clearly defines and solidifies the strategy that has been working for Georgia Power customers and our communities over the last several years. Our company is built for this moment and, as we build and expand the power grid to serve this growth, we will do so responsibly and in a way which lives up to our longstanding mission to be a Citizen Wherever We Serve.” Learn more: georgiapower.com/pledge

There’s nothing quite like the Peachtree Road Race. 🍑🇺🇸 One of our members of the Southern Company crew, it’s a tradition he shared with his dad and a memory they built together year after year. For Atlanta, it’s a Fourth of July staple that brings our community together. As a proud sponsor and with many coworkers lacing up their running shoes, we're excited to be part of a tradition that celebrates the spirit of our city. 🏃♀️🏃♂️
