GivingBack.tech has three important parts: donors who list suitable AV equipment; beneficiaries who apply for products; and partners who help the platform grow. As a Together For Cinema initiative, GivingBack.tech has been created to help useful AV equipment reach charities and CICs that can put it to work. Charitable partners can help us reach more organisations, raise awareness and create more opportunities for technology to be redirected to good causes. If your organisation wants to support a practical, industry-led initiative with social value at its heart, please get in touch. https://lnkd.in/ekMycQXi #GivingBackTech #TogetherForCinema #SocialValue #AVIndustry #TechForGood #CommunityImpact

Keep the products coming! GivingBack.tech, a Together For Cinema initiative, is open to charities and CICs, and beneficiary interest is growing. To make the platform work, we need a steady flow of suitable AV equipment from across the industry. If your organisation has surplus, secondhand, discontinued, B-stock or end-of-line products that still have a useful life, please list them on the platform. This week Ian's joining the AV User Group presentations at Fulham Pier, next to Fulham Football Club, speaking with users and consultants about the launch of GivingBack.tech, a Together For Cinema initiative. It's a valuable opportunity to highlight how the AV industry is already helping to create cinema rooms in children’s hospices and care settings, and how its wider support for GivingBack.tech can help us reach even more deserving venues. The more people who understand what the two initiatives do, the more opportunities we have to create lasting impact. #TogetherForCinema #AVUserGroup #AVIndustry #CommunityImpact

The AV industry has already helped create over 60 cinema rooms for Together For Cinema. Now, that same spirit of support is helping give surplus AV equipment a second life through GivingBack.tech. This week, Ian is continuing that conversation at the CEDIA EMEA Tech Summit London. GivingBack.tech, a Together For Cinema initiative, has been created to help the AV industry redirect surplus, secondhand, discontinued and B-stock equipment to charities and CICs across the UK. It is another practical way for the sector to turn time, expertise, products and support into meaningful impact. Charities and CIC's are already seeing the benefit, so if you are at the event, please do come and say hello to find out how you can involved. #GivingBackTech #TogetherForCinema #CEDIA #AVIndustry #TechForGood #CommunityImpact

Events like this are a valuable opportunity to talk about product donations, beneficiary registrations, partnership support and the role our industry can play in giving useful AV equipment a second life with charities and CICs across the UK. If you are attending, please do say hello. #GivingBackTech #AWEExpo #AVIndustry #TechForGood #CommunityImpact

One product can make a difference! A display, speaker, projector, control system, cable stock or other suitable AV product sitting unused could become something genuinely useful for a charity or CIC. GivingBack.tech, a Together For Cinema initiative, makes it simple for AV businesses to list surplus, secondhand, discontinued, B-stock or end-of-line products so approved organisations can apply for them. If you have just one suitable item, please list it. If you have several, even better. Every listing helps build the opportunity for impact. GivingBack.tech reposted this
Some of you know I own a bike repair business. I focus on service, and have repaired thousands of bikes of all types over the last two decades. I do annual pro level industry training, particularly on Bosch and Shimano-powered e-bikes (e-bikes are cool empowerment/smile machines, and already play a significant part in re-imagining how cities and our lives function in future). It’s part social enterprise (especially during COVID), part therapy, an excuse to own some stunningly expensive/niche tools, with a bit of actual profit thrown in to keep the accountants in my life happy. (Old/universally-adaptable joke: what’s a bike mechanic’s worst nightmare? That on their death, their partner will sell their tools for what they were told they cost) That's the context: fixing bikes is not my first rodeo. Yesterday I spent *four hours* replacing two headset bearings. On older bikes this is a 20-minute job, max. But because this was a modern bike with ‘integrated’ ie hidden cables, the complexity is an order of magnitude worse. The job involved disconnecting both hydraulic disc brake calipers, unthreading the brake hoses, swapping the bearings (30 seconds) - then reassembling and bleeding the brakes. Oh, and removing then replacing the ‘bottom bracket’ (the thing the pedals spin on) to afford re-routing the rear brake hose. There was tea, Led Zeppelin, podcasts, lunch, a bit of swearing, trial-and-error, etc. We got there. (For bike nerds: the replacement bearings were £45 a pop Airevelo Solid Lubricant Technology ACB ones, that should never need replacing - they are awesome👍) What does this have to do with #AV technology or #workplace / #sustainability? Designers, think on the consequences of your choices. Or sins. Often the same thing. Think about #repairability. Think about #circularity. Think about #lifecycle. Think about the re-use of mounts that may already be in place. Think about the person installing, maintaining or removing your baby. Make it easy to do the right thing. If you manage technology, think about the bigger picture beyond spec or price. Learn how to make this part of your proposal to management. Understand your corporate policies and aspirations regarding reducing impact. Have a narrative you can tell to suppliers, that pushes them in turn to Be Better. In the UK alone the pro AV industry disposes of ***two thousand*** 40-foot shipping containers of displays each year. Many of which are still perfectly useful to someone. Think about donating removed gear to charitable orgs via Ian Morrish’s Together For Cinema or GivingBack.tech If you’re an end user, challenge your integrator - what will happen to your old kit? Is there a story you can tell to your leadership and staff, about who benefitted from your upgrade? As technology and workplace / sustainability leaders, let’s Be Better at this stuff. Bike industry, you too 😉 🙏 (more bike geekery: yes, just the three workstands required to effect this repair 🤦♂️)

From product uploads to charity registrations, GivingBack.tech has a busy summer ahead! Over the past couple of weeks, Ian and the team have been speaking with donors, partners, ambassadors and supporters to keep momentum building across the platform. We've had some great conversations about product listings, beneficiary registrations, first matches, partner activity and how the AV industry can continue supporting charities and CICs across the UK. Every conversation helps move GivingBack.tech closer to giving more surplus AV equipment a useful second life with organisations that need it. Thank you to the donors, partners, supporters and friends of GivingBack.tech who continue to give their time, energy, expertise and products. #GivingBackTech #AVIndustry #TechForGood #Sustainability #CommunityImpact
