EPA brownfield grant funding faces a steep decline. With FY2027 funding expected to decrease to approximately $64 million, the number of competitive grants awarded could fall by 52 percent, while total announced investment could drop by 76 percent. As competition intensifies, a clear strategy and compelling application will matter more than ever. And so will working with a team that can deliver results, like H&A: Our consultants authored six successful grant applications for the past year, securing $14.5 million for five public entities across four states. The recent heatwaves in many parts of the United States are good reminders to plan for hot conditions. Keep these four Ws in mind to reduce the risk of heat stress: Weather: When planning to be outside, take into account temperature, humidity, wind, and other factors.  Where: Consider what your outdoor work or play environment is like: Will you be near hot equipment or materials? Will you have shade or direct sunlight?  What: How physically challenging is your task? Will you wear PPE or other equipment that could add to heat stress?  Who: Think about the preparedness of yourself and the people you’re with: Are you properly hydrated? Washington Park’s Cloud Forest rhododendron garden is one of Portland, Oregon’s treasured green spaces. Our local staff recently had the chance to help care for it when they volunteered with Portland Parks & Recreation.     Teresa Wilson; Jennifer Ann Casler, RG, PG; Darlene V.; Brody Arvesen; Micah Hintz, PE, GE; and Emma Brasfield spent the day groundskeeping in this special space. What makes geophysics truly effective for contaminated site investigation? According to H&A’s Adam R. Mangel, PhD., LG, it isn’t better technology — it’s better integration with geologic expertise. In a new article published by the Environmental and Engineering Geophysics Society (EEGS), Adam summarizes a session he led at a recent EEGS symposium to illustrate the point that geophysics works best when grounded in geologic understanding, not treated as a stand-alone imaging tool.   As Adam puts it, the goal is “interpretations that are (hydro)geologically defensible, useful to project teams, and appropriate for the decisions at hand.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gmPUSAAD
