Did you know Harris Health had a hand in preparing astronauts for space? In 2001, NASA astronauts C. Michael Foale and Scott Kelly spent time at Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital to learn life-saving procedures for medical emergencies in space. The two astronauts spent time with Muhammad Atallah, MD, anesthesiologist, who demonstrated proper airway management and endotracheal intubation as part of their medical training for the journey into space. Harris Health John M. O'Quinn Hospital is taking shape! The future of healthcare is rising before our eyes. We've surpassed 3 million project man-hours and reached major milestones at the new hospital, including completion of the entrance canopy, helipad structures and legacy bridge to existing structure. The building exterior is nearing completion, elevator systems are nearing temporary operation readiness, and interior finishes are now underway on Levels 1 and 2. Behind the scenes, teams continue making progress on interior walls, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across Levels 1–12. For 35 years, Harris Health School of Diagnostic Medical Imaging has trained the next generation of healthcare imaging professionals. What began as a 12-month program accepting one student per year, evolved into a school that now offers four programs for those interested in joining the medical imaging profession. Today, more than 300 applicants apply, but only 60 are accepted. Instruction includes classroom and clinical education at Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital, Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, Harris Health Smith Clinic and Harris Health Ambulatory health centers. Since its founding, the school has graduated more than 1,000 students across all programs.
