How often have you brushed off hurtful words as just a joke or teasing? Lauryn Jones aka Sumer Strawbree, Speaker, Author, & Affirmations Authority, opens up about her own experience, sharing that she didn't even realize she was being bullied at first. She thought her classmates were just kidding around, and it took her dad pointing it out for her to understand what was really happening. To help other families catch this early, Sumer shared warning signs parents should look out for: 🚩 Sudden Changes in Behavior: Keep an eye out for noticeable unexplained shifts in how your child acts day-to-day 🗣️ Negative Self-Talk: Listen for kids suddenly saying harmful things out loud about themselves 💔 Internalizing Comments: Remember her powerful point - a child usually doesn't feel a negative way about themselves until someone else says something first With social media intensifying everything, Sumer also touches on the harsh reality of cyberbullying. It’s so important to remember that bullies often hide behind a screen because the distance makes them feel overly confident but in reality, they are just projecting their own unresolved problems and insecurities. Instead of letting that negativity win, she channeled her experience into her debut coloring book, Black, Brown and Beautiful! ✨ These incredible books have helped girls recognize their true worth and have already inspired over 10,000 girls worldwide! When search results lack inclusivity, it can subconsciously program young minds to ignore their own reflection without them even realizing it. ☹️ Lauryn Jones aka Sumer Strawbree, Speaker, Author, & Affirmations Authority, experienced this firsthand when she found herself drawing only what the algorithm showed. It took her father to point it out for her to recognize it but when she finally broke out of that artistic shell and chose to draw girls who look like her - this shift completely empowered her to draw the underrepresented. 💪 💖 This is why representation matters and how breaking the "program" can unlock your true confidence. 💫 🎧 Join the conversation with host, Erica Lockheimer and co-host, Elizabeth Wendorf-Bloesser on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.

It’s easy to say your team values accessibility until those values are actually tested by a strict launch deadline. ⏳ Google Chrome VP & GM Parisa Tabriz discuss what happens when a highly motivated team builds a new feature, only to realize the accessibility quality just isn't there yet. In those moments to "ship it" or not are when our values are tested and she says it best in this episode. Do you launch anyway, or do you delay the release to ensure you're genuinely serving all users? For Parisa, the answer is clear: if it doesn't serve everyone, the quality isn't there. 🛑 I couldn't agree more and throughout my time building products, I say do it, do it right and "don't ship it" and delay. With all the pressure to move fast, these are some of the hardest decisions, but in my opinion you always end up actually utilizing more time to fix it and also not proud of what you've built.💻✨
