Hart Montgomery is CTO of LF Decentralized Trust and a highly respected cryptographer. When he talks to the institutions and developers building real blockchain systems, one problem keeps coming back. "Privacy is rated by many as the single most critical thing holding back blockchain deployments today. It's what we need to solve to move real-world finance from proof of concept to scale." To be clear on the framing: production systems using privacy-preserving techniques already run at regulated institutions today. What comes next is scaling those systems to entire payments and settlement infrastructure. That takes a research and standards pipeline that keeps advancing. LFDT has three projects on that right now. Paladin is a modular, EVM-agnostic middleware platform for privacy that lets developers pick the privacy model without being locked into one system. It is production ready. Nightstream is a lab focused on post-quantum SNARKs and zero-knowledge proof systems built for high-performance applications. Zero Knowledge Berkeley (ZKBK) is implementing proof of personhood credentials. As AI agents become ubiquitous, proving a human is a human, without revealing which human, becomes core infrastructure. Three Hyperledger Fabric sessions at LFDT Maintainer Days 2026 highlighted work on EVM compatibility, higher-throughput architecture, and Kubernetes-based network operations. Arne Rutjes (IBM) previewed early work to make Fabric and Fabric X EVM-compatible through an Ethereum JSON-RPC gateway and EVM endorser. The proposed approach would allow developers to use Ethereum contracts, wallets, and compatible tooling while network operators retain Fabric’s identities and consensus model. Senthilnathan Natarajan (IBM) presented Fabric X’s redesigned, component-based architecture, including its use of parallel processing and strongly consistent distributed databases to support workloads requiring greater scale. “The State of Interoperability,” presented at LFDT Maintainer Days 2026, examined what it takes to connect blockchain networks that were designed to operate independently. The panel featured Cameron Nili (LayerZero Labs), Carlos Amaro and André Augusto (Hyperledger Cacti), Weijia Zhang (Smoot, Enterprise Ethereum Alliance), and Arne Rutjes (IBM). Web3j 6.0 is available, bringing Fusaka support and agentic development support to Java developers building decentralized applications and interacting with Ethereum events. In the release post, Nischal Sharma, Web3j maintainer and lead engineer at Web3 Labs, covers updates across web3j, web3j-evm, and web3j-unit, including support for EIP-7594 blob transactions, EIP-7702 authorization signing, updated blob base fee handling, and Osaka-rule support in the embedded EVM. Lineth Technical Deep Dive: Inside the Production-Grade ZK Rollup Stack With the announcement of Lineth (https://lnkd.in/gy5sewCV) as a new Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust incubating project, we're opening the hood on the full stack in our first community Technical Deep Dive. Lineth is a production-grade, EVM-equivalent zk-rollup stack for Ethereum - the same codebase that has powered Linea Mainnet since July 2023, finalizing over 300 million transactions and generating more than 416,000 zero-knowledge proofs with 99.98% sequencer uptime. It is now in a vendor-neutral, open source home under LFDT, governed by a Technical Steering Committee and with more than 30 project maintainers.
