It's no longer only about electrifying remote communities—it's about delivering resilient, economical power wherever the grid falls short. For decades, diesel has been the default solution—despite its high fuel costs, logistical challenges, maintenance burden and carbon footprint. With lithium-ion battery pack prices more than 90% below 2010 levels (BloombergNEF), solar-plus-storage microgrids now offer compelling lifecycle economics, reducing fuel-price exposure and shifting expenditure toward long-life energy assets. Cost competitiveness alone, however, does not define a microgrid. The real differentiator lies in the architecture of the power system—and who is responsible for keeping it stable. Conventional C&I BESS is predominantly grid-following, with operation predicated on a stable external grid. In weak-grid and off-grid environments, microgrid BESS must instead provide grid-forming capability: establishing and regulating voltage and frequency, enabling black start, and managing grid-connected and islanded transitions. This shift changes the role of energy storage from energy optimization to power system formation—a difference that directly impacts renewable integration, power quality, system resilience and long-term operational performance. At Lavorazioni Meccaniche Balbo Srl in Brendola, Italy, weekday production concentrates demand, while rooftop generation continues through weekend shutdowns. As feed-in remuneration declined, the marginal value of surplus electricity exported to the grid diminished progressively. Completed in June 2026, LONGi Energy Storage deployed a 315 kW / 645 kWh BESS, dimensioned in accordance with the factory’s load curve, weekend surplus profile and planned capacity expansion. 💡 The system shifts surplus energy into production hours while actively managing peak import at the point of common coupling, delivering: • Optimized on-site utilization of available generation • Grid purchase displacement during production hours • Mitigation of peak demand charges • Enhanced returns across 232 kW of existing installed generation, with an additional 150 kW foreseen By aligning system capacity and intelligent dispatch with the facility’s operational rhythm, LONGi Energy Storage directs surplus energy toward its most economically productive use—embedding energy optimization within daily industrial operations and reinforcing the site’s long-term cost competitiveness. #LONGiEnergyStorage #BESS #CommercialAndIndustrial #PeakShaving #Italy

LONGi Solar Europe and Bet Solar set an annual target of 150 megawatts for solar modules and 25 megawatt hours for energy storage LONGi Solar Europe and Bet Solar signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand their commercial partnership. Chao JIA and Francisco Heredia executed the agreement. Chao Jia serves as President of LONGi Europe for DG. Francisco Heredia holds the position of Director of Business Development and Strategy for Bet Solar. The document establishes an annual installation target of 150 MWp for solar modules and 25 MWh for battery energy storage systems. The module portfolio features the Hi-MO X10 and S10 series alongside their respective EcoLife versions. The contract also covers the Hi-MO One Pro, Omni Cube, Potis Bank and Potis Mobile storage products.
