It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the tragic loss of our Youth and Family Services Director, Staci Davis, who passed away Saturday night as the result of a shooting. Staci was so much more than a staff member at the New River YMCA. She was truly the heart behind so much of the work we do. Her passion for serving not only the children in our community but also the families could be seen in everything she touched. From our childcare programs to the countless families she supported, Staci gave her WHOLE heart to making sure every child who walked through our doors felt safe, welcomed, and loved. <3 Staci believed deeply in the mission of the YMCA. She understood that when we invest in children and support families, we strengthen our entire community. Through her leadership, compassion, and tireless dedication, she helped build a childcare program and preschool program that has become a trusted place for families across Onslow County. Anyone who knew Staci knew her energy, her kindness, and the way she fiercely advocated for the children in our care. She celebrated their milestones, walked beside families during difficult moments, and inspired our staff to always lead with compassion and purpose. Our YMCA family is grieving an unimaginable loss. Staci’s impact on our organization and our community will never be forgotten. The children she cared for, the families she supported, and the colleagues she inspired will carry her legacy forward every day. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask our community to join us in praying for Staci’s family, her boys, her loved ones, and our YMCA staff and families who are mourning her loss. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” We hold onto that promise as we grieve together. Staci’s heart for children and families helped shape the New River YMCA into what it is today. Her light, her love, and her commitment to this community will continue to guide the work we do. 💙 Stronger Together in 2025 💙 As we reflect on 2025, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible community that makes the Y possible. Because of the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers, and the commitment of our staff, we were able to create real, measurable impact across Onslow County. In 2025, together we: • Served 209 students through our Preschool & Early Learning Center • Supported 462 children through Summer Camp • Provided $141,000 in financial assistance, ensuring access for all • Served 12,169 individuals through our food programs • Engaged 150 volunteers who gave nearly 3,000 hours of service • Delivered programs across 19 sites in our community These numbers represent more than statistics, they represent children learning and growing, families finding support, and neighbors showing up for one another.
