🚀🔥 Primary Venture Partners' first-ever BOSTON "On the Business" Mastery Day is in the books and it did NOT disappoint 🔥🚀 I had a genuine blast meeting Boston's extraordinary community of women leaders. As always, this group was completely locked in—zero multi-tasking, contagious energy, and (naturally) the cleaning crew literally had to tell us it was time to go home. Some highlights... 💁♀️ Yours Truly kicked us off with a challenge to QUESTION EVERYTHING. We covered the "Core Four" traits that separate the top 1% of leaders, the metrics that actually matter in the AI era, how Primary sizes up businesses and teams, and — of course — the SaaSpocalypse and what operators do or don't need to worry about. The operative question: are YOU in the best possible spot to maximize this chapter of your career? 💰Jennifer DiRico, CFO at PTC, reminded us the P&L is having a moment. Her line the room won't forget: if AI improves activity but doesn't move revenue, margin, or free cash flow, it's simply NOT ROI. 📈 Monica Perez, Global Head of Customer Success at Lovable, took us inside scaling enterprise CS through record-breaking growth. The deliberate bet: get customers to their "load-bearing" mile markers early — even if that means custom, ad hoc client hackathons to get them there — because that's what builds long-term stickiness. ⚙️ Sam Crowell Richard, CRO at ngrok, shared her own framework for using AI to 10x herself as a non-technical commercial leader — and how it didn't just reshape her day-to-day, but massively accelerated her re-entry after maternity leave. 👓 Amy Konary, SVP Marketing at Zuora, drew a powerful analogy from her year as a D1 soccer goalie: the goalie has a different perspective and sees the whole field; that year in the seat made her a better midfielder on the other side. The charge to all of us: don't wait to get PICKED for the hardest opportunities; be the one who SEES them first and brings others along. 💙 Emily Capodilupo, SVP Algorithms & Data at WHOOP, had the room's brains exploding over where wearables data fits into the broader health landscape. But most on-theme for the day: product and customer experience are everything. Every WHOOP brand ambassador was a genuine power user first — the product does the selling. 🤖 Amanda Kahlow, founder & CEO of our breakout portfolio company 1mind, flipped the script: in the race to improve the buyer experience, humans are the bottleneck — we can only handle so much and we hallucinate plenty ourselves. Her vision: instead of yelling "AGENT, AGENT, AGENT" on an 800 call to reach a human, we'll be doing it to reach AI. A huge thanks to WHOOP for hosting us in their space on a perfect Boston summer day, and to Agatha Kluk, Mickala Wallingford and the Orrick Tech team for their support yesterday and of OtB more broadly. And last but not least, to my amazing Primary partner in crime on all things OtB, Annabelle Kim! 👀👀 NYC — you're up next. See you Monday, September 14! 👀

Yesterday, Bobyard Plumbing went live, and is our fourth trade on our platform. If you estimate commercial plumbing work, you know the drill of tracing systems across drawings, checking risers against isometrics, and making sure every valve and fitting makes it into the bid. You also know how much it sucks. Bobyard now automates that part, in addition measuring pipe runs, counting risers, detecting valves, grouping by system, and more. Then it flows it all straight into your estimate. Check it out. In the time it takes you to demo it, we finish a full takeoff with you. https://lnkd.in/esi9ZYyh

Brian Schechter and I are excited to have Shahin Farshchi, General Partner at Lux Capital, on The Compute 100 podcast this week. This conversation was a ton of fun - Shahin has been investing in compute long before public and private markets caught up to their potential. He's backed companies in The Compute 100 including Majestic Labs, Cognichip, and Unconventional AI. We covered what it takes to compete in semis, how emerging companies can challenge scaled incumbents, and what his last two decades of watching the compute ecosystem evolve has taught him about startups. If you're a founder thinking about starting a compute business, give this a listen. We loved the conversation, and know you will too. https://lnkd.in/eYw2FZMY

Physical AI goes beyond robotics and some of most defensible breakout companies over the last decade have been hardware businesses revolutionizing their markets. From Axon to Samsara, Skydio to Flock Safety, the next generation of hardware businesses combined with AI agents are unleashing a whole new category of businesses that we call HAANs (Hardware-Activated Agent Networks). We've been using the term HAANs (Hardware-Activated Agent Networks) to describe a new category we see emerging. HAANs deploy hardware to capture real-world operational data, then use agents to reason on top of this data to automate downstream workflows. We view HAANs as the AI-native successors to the hardware-enabled software companies of the last decade... but much bigger. HAANs are AI-native, more powerful, more scalable, and able to capture >10x more value by penetrating labor budgets. Excited to share Part 1 of our Physical AI thesis with the world. A 49 slide breakdown of the opportunity, the why now, case studies and more. Read the full thesis on our website at the link below.

This week's guest on The Compute 100 podcast is Chase Lochmiller, co-founder and CEO of Crusoe. It was one of my favorite conversations we've had to date - thanks Chase for joining Brian Schechter and I! Chase is building Crusoe, an energy-first AI company, deploying compute at gigawatt scale, and a key part of the biggest infrastructure buildout of all time. While climbing mountains with his best friend turned co-founder, Chase first learned of gas flares – spots all around the world where energy was virtually free. In 2018, the vision was clear – co-locate small data centers next to these gas flares, mine bitcoin, and scale. While Crusoe grew their bitcoin mining business, Chase had a side project that was his core long term motivation – using renewable, low-cost energy to power compute for AI. Fast forward to 2026, Crusoe is worth over $10B, launched a full-stack inference platform, and currently are building out one of the largest data centers in the country in Abilene, TX as a part of OpenAI’s Stargate project. Listen to the convo below! https://lnkd.in/gSF9KV2J

  • Congrats to the team at Lantern on their $7M raise, powering the people who keep our world stocked. They're building Lantern for a group that mostly goes unnoticed. Supply chain is a $9 trillion part of the economy, still run on gut and spreadsheets, and they're giving it a better way to work. We believe deeply in these founders, and even more in the problem they're focused on solving. Matt Rojas, Conor Leen, and Jayadeep Shitole are growing the team. Check out their open roles.

I’m thrilled to announce Lantern’s $7M seed round led by Primary Venture Partners and Pear VC 🎉 We started Lantern with a clear thesis. Supply chains run our lives. Wholesale distribution orchestrates the messy middle of our entire supply chain. It’s the central node. This $9T market is the backbone of our entire economy, powered by millions of hard working men & women. They get no credit, but make our entire world go round. Supercharging distribution is the highest leverage thing we can do to improve the lives of every person on the planet. This job is so fun. We get to work with the best customers in the world. Over the past six months, we’ve generated millions in revenue. Sales have tripled since we closed the round. But this is just the beginning. With this capital, we’re launching more products. We’re hiring more engineers. We’re growing even faster. More homes will get built, more shelves will get stocked, more jobs will be created. To my co-founders: You guys are my brothers. I can’t believe we get to do this every day. To our team: Thank you for believing in Lantern. Thank you for sacrificing. You are the heart and soul of this company. To our customers: Thank you for trusting us with your most important decisions. Everything we do is to honor you and your craft. You guys are heroes. To our investors: Thank you for sharing our vision. You are the oxygen of Lantern. We couldn’t do this without you. We’re in the first inning. Time to change the world. If you want to change the world with us, we’re hiring! We’re looking for that rare combination of elite talent, boundless ambition, and intense kindness. • Etched is out of stealth with a new category of inference compute, two breakthrough technologies (Low Voltage Inference and Cluster Scale Memory), $1B+ in customer contracts, and $800M raised. Congratulations to Gavin Uberti, Robert W., and the entire team; Primary partner Brian Schechter wrote on why we've backed Etched since the seed.

I wrote this as an ode to the Etched founders, especially Gavin Uberti and Robert W., whose extraordinary leadership has brought the company to this moment of announcing $800M in funding and more. Teleology & Founders. The Etched Story. When studying philosophy in college, I was drawn to teleology: the study of purpose and potential. Aristotle’s metaphor of the acorn and the oak in Physics and De Anima is simple but profound. Sun, water, and soil matter, but the seed contains the source code of what the seed will become. Seed investing is teleological by nature. The company that emerges is unrecognizable, on the surface, to what was there at seed. But the potentiality is there from the beginning: in the founders, the market, and the fit between them. Etched taught me this. Primary led the seed round in @Etched, and we are thrilled to congratulate the team as they announce $800M in funding. In under four years, Etched has grown into one of the most formidable AI infrastructure teams in the world: 400+ people, including leaders and engineers from Nvidia, Google’s TPU team, Broadcom, SK Hynix, TSMC, top HFT firms, and more. Since the Series B late last year, more than 200 people have joined. The company has earned more than $1B in customer orders, built deep manufacturing and supply-chain partnerships, opened a Taiwan factory, and is now validating its first rack-scale inference product with customers. Etched can explain the technology, product, and strategy better than anyone. What I can add is an investor’s view from seed, through every round since, and from the boardroom: what makes Gavin and Rob a truly n-of-1 pair and how their example exemplifies why seed investing is about betting on fearless founders who reject consensus and think from first principles with no-limit ambitions.
