Western By The Numbers. Member engagement programs often look good in theory and thin in practice. Western's Ambassador Program is a useful counterexample: in its second year, the network grew to 52 ambassadors across 23 member schools, logged nearly 500 volunteer hours, and helped onboard close to 100 new members — while closing access gaps directly, with roughly 98% of waitlist requests fulfilled. The takeaway for any professional association: engagement infrastructure that produces measurable throughput (not just sentiment) is what actually moves member retention and access numbers. Professional growth is important. But for many instructors, it's the community that makes the biggest difference. In this week's Community Spotlight, Tobias Pietz reflects on what PSIA-AASI has meant throughout his journey. While certifications and continuing education helped him grow as an instructor, it's the relationships, mentorship, and shared passion that have kept him engaged year after year. Strong professional communities don't just build better instructors—they build lasting careers. What has been the most valuable part of your professional community? #PSIAAASIWestern #Community #SnowsportsEducation

What does meaningful quality improvement look like in a professional certification organization? At PSIA-AASI Western Region, it looks like this. Between 2021 and 2026, mandatory examiner training hours went from zero to 21 — with an additional 54 hours of optional on-snow development available. Confirmed noncompliant exams dropped from 11 in 2023 to zero in 2025. Candidate preparation events nearly doubled in volume, serving three times as many participants — a 298% increase in candidates reached. And despite a significant expansion in education-only programming, certification registrations grew from 830 to 928. Perhaps most telling: inactive membership fell by more than half, from 967 to 440 over the same period. This is what systematic investment in process quality produces. Not just better outcomes — but a membership that re-engages because the value proposition is real. For any organization navigating the tension between accessibility and rigor, Western's trajectory offers a clear signal: when you invest in the infrastructure that supports candidates, participation follows. Professional development is often associated with technical skills and certification pathways. But for many instructors, the value of a professional association extends far beyond that. In this member spotlight, Manuela Canova reflects on her journey from Argentina and the role the PSIA-AASI Western community played in helping her build confidence, develop meaningful connections, and find a sense of belonging in a new environment. Strong communities help professionals grow—not only in what they know, but in who they become. The strength of PSIA-AASI has always been its members. We're proud to share Manuela's story. #PSIAAASI #TheSnowPros #ProfessionalDevelopment #MemberSpotlight #Community

Western was an early adopter of the new Senior Certification and delivers more senior programming than any region of comparable size. There's an industry-wide assumption that snowsports is a young person's game. The data inside our region suggests otherwise — experienced instructors remain among the most engaged, and programs like Silver Socials show that demand is there when the structure exists to meet it. Building for the full arc of an instructor's career isn't a niche concern. It's how institutional knowledge stays in the building. The PSIA-AASI Western Region community showed up at Mt. Everest Base Camp — literally. A Western member carried our banner to 5,364 meters (17,598 ft), a reminder that the people who make up this organization bring the same commitment to everything they do, on the snow and beyond. Proud to represent a community that goes the distance. Western By The Numbers. Two data points that tell a clear story about organizational health: Membership: 3,716 members in 2023/24 — the highest total in Western's history. Sustained through pandemic recovery, record snowfall seasons, and challenging years alike. Participation: Event registrations climbed from 2,094 in 2020/21 to 3,341 in 2025/26. A 60% increase over five seasons — not just more members on the roster, but more members actively investing in their professional development. In a seasonal industry shaped by weather volatility and hiring cycles, these numbers don't happen by accident. They reflect deliberate programming, consistent regional leadership, and a membership that keeps showing up. Organizational engagement is one of the hardest metrics to move — and PSIA-AASI Western has moved it significantly. Inactive members dropped from 967 in 2021 to 440 in 2026. Member participation in at least one regional event climbed from 40% to 48% over the same period. The shift reflects a deliberate strategy: expand the calendar, balance education with exams, and make it easier for members at every level to stay connected to the profession. From 197 regional events in 2021/22 to 347 in 2025/26 — PSIA-AASI Western has nearly doubled its calendar of member programming. The shift is intentional: 2/3 of the calendar now focuses on education rather than exams. The result? Education registrations have doubled from 1,264 to 2,413 in the same period. Access to professional development shouldn't be limited to exam cycles. For more facts: https://lnkd.in/efNkbB3U . #PSIAAASI #SnowSports #ProfessionalDevelopment #ContinuousLearning
