Some of the most important tools in this industry were born from a simple question: what if we could do this better? That question became the STeP Simulator – a hands-on training device developed by Steve Kopp at M.J. Electric that makes invisible electrical hazards visible. Users can build fault scenarios, install grounds, and measure resulting voltages in real time, creating the kind of understanding that classroom instruction alone can't deliver. The 2024 CEO Innovation Award winner has come a long way since then. What started as a prototype is now a commercially available training product, distributed nationally and expanding across industry training programs. For the third time in four years, Quanta Services has been named #1 on Solar Power World's Top Solar Contractors list. In 2025, five Quanta operating companies – Ampacity, Blattner, Cupertino Electric, Inc., M. J. Electric, LLC, and The Ryan Company, Inc. – installed more than 6,100 MWs of solar capacity across the United States. All-time, that number now exceeds 36,000 MWs. You're not trying to climb one mountain. You're trying to climb all of them at once. That's most people's reality. The list never gets shorter, and when everything is a priority, nothing really is. That's where momentum dies. In a recent Capacity Chat, Manley Feinberg II, CSP shared a concept that stuck: declare your current climb. Pick the single highest-leverage initiative in front of you right now. Not your whole list – one thing. Write it down. Put it somewhere you'll see it. Then move it forward every day, as early as possible, before everything else rushes in. The goal isn't to ignore everything else. It's to build intentional momentum behind the thing that matters most. Because momentum is contagious. Progress on one front creates energy that bleeds into the others. In practice at Quanta, it looks like this: instead of trying to address every safety gap at once, a team might declare their current climb as getting crews consistently using rubber gloves in the field. That's it. Every morning, that's the focus. Every conversation, that's the thread. Thirty days of intentional effort on one thing creates more lasting change than a year of scattered attention across ten. Our current climb as an organization in terms of safety is the elimination of life-threatening, life-altering, and life-ending events. So what's yours?
